The Flames have made some roster moves ahead of the tilt against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Travis Hamonic has been activated off the IR after suffering a facial fracture in game one of the season. Anthony Peluso has been reassigned to the AHL, as the Flames needed to take a body off the active roster.
Hamonic suffered a facial fracture after a fight against Erik Gudbranson in the season opener against the Vancouver Canucks. It appears he will make his return against Pittsburgh, playing on the second pairing with Noah Hanifin based on morning skate rushes.
As reactivating Hamonic put the Flames over their 23-man roster limit, they needed to move someone down: fourth line fighter Anthony Peluso. The pugilist played two games on the fourth line, being held to fewer than 10 minutes each outing. He had zero points and zero PIMs.
For the time being, it appears the Flames will carry 13 forwards and eight defencemen on the roster. Juuso Valimaki and Rasmus Andersson seem to have made the team for the longer haul, although both can still be sent down. As Valimaki’s ELC will start running the next time he suits up for the team, it’ll be interesting to see if the Flames keep him around or send him down to work on his game.
