The NCAA has announced the field for their annual Division I men’s hockey national championship tournament, and two Calgary Flames prospects are on teams that are vying for the crown.
2020 third-round pick Jake Boltmann is a freshman with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who finished with a 27-11-0 record and were ranked ninth in the PairWise Rankings. The Irish were eliminated in the Big 10 conference’s playoffs, but receive an at-large bid due to being generally quite good overall. They’re in the Albany regional bracket.
2021 first-round pick Matt Coronato is a freshman with the Harvard Crimson, who won the ECAC tournament in dramatic fashion. They finished tied for 17th in the PairWise rankings with a 21-10-3 record and received an automatic spot in the tournament due to being a conference champion. They’re also in the Albany regional bracket.
Harvard plays Minnesota State while Notre Dame plays North Dakota, with both games on Thursday. The regional final will be on Friday, and will feature between zero and two Flames prospects depending on how those Thursday games pan out.
NCAA Frozen Four, featuring the four regional champions going head-to-head, goes Wed., Apr. 7 and Fri., Apr. 9 in Boston.
