The Calgary Wranglers return to home ice after going 1-2-0-1 on their four game road trip. They kick off their homestand with a two game series against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. They last faced them the last time they were at home in early March, which resulted in two high scoring games that did not go Calgary’s way. Their last scores were 6-1 and 8-2 to the Seattle Kraken’s affiliate. This weekend, they’ll have a chance to get some revenge.

Notes and expectations

The roster moves were pretty quiet this week. No movement took place between the Wranglers and Flames, but they did bring on a couple more players from the Rapid City Rush. The team announced on Thursday that Charles Martin and Connor Murphy were assigned from their ECHL affiliate. The past few games have been closer in scoring but it would still be interesting to see Murphy get a game in this weekend to see if there is some depth in net that may work in their favour.
As far as other available players go, David Silye is expected to be out for this series after suffering a lower body injury in the first game of the Abbotsford Canucks series. He was listed as week to week in the pre-game update on Sunday. Sam Honzek was still on that update too but changed his status to day-to-day, so there is a chance he may be back for the Firebirds series.
A Wrangler to watch this weekend is Sam Morton. Morton has had a really good stretch of games with six points in his last five games. His scoring streak was snapped in the 1-0 loss to Abbotsford but before that, he was scoring and scoring early to set the tone. He scored just 34 seconds into their last game against Coachella Valley, so it would be interesting to see if he pulls that off again in these upcoming games.
This series starts on Friday at 7:00 p.m. MT and continues into Sunday for an earlier than usual 12:00 p.m. MT puck drop. Tickets are still available for both games and streams are available for a fee on AHLtv on Flo Hockey. The Fan960 will have the radio call for these games and multiple FlamesNation contributors will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
