Who doesn’t love trades?
The Nashville Predators seemingly love trades, as they made two of them in recent times. On Monday, they traded Phil Tomasino to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2027 fourth-round pick. Moreover, they acquired Ryder Rolston for future considerations on Wednesday.
Tomasino was selected 24th overall by the Predators in the 2019 draft. In his rookie season in 2021-22, he scored a career-high 11 goals and 32 points in 76 games, however, his production has slipped since then. In 2022-23, the right-shot centre scored five goals and 18 points in 31 games, and seven goals and 20 points in 41 games in 2023-24. So far in 2024-25, Tomasino picked up an assist in 11 games.
As for Rolston, the right-winger was selected in the fifth round of the 2020 draft by the Colorado Avalanche. He was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks less than a year later and after three seasons at the University of Notre Dame, he made his professional debut in 2023-24 with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. That year, he scored 10 goals and 19 points in 62 games and has a goal in six games so far this season.

Timo Meier suspended for one game

Sticking with Nashville Predator-related news, Timo Meier was suspended for one game for cross-checking Predators forward Zachary L’Heureux in the face on Monday.
This is Meier’s first National Hockey League suspension, but he has been in trouble before, getting a fine for elbowing in 2017 and embellishment in 2019, both times with the San Jose Sharks.
The New Jersey Devils acquired the Swiss forward from the Sharks before the 2022 trade deadline as he scored 31 goals and 52 points in 57 games before the trade. After the trade, Meier scored nine goals and 14 points in 21 games, along with two goals and four points in 11 postseason games.
In Meier’s first full season with the Devils, he scored 28 goals and 52 points in 69 games as they missed the postseason due to subpar goaltending. Fast forward to this season, and the Devils are currently first in the Metropolitan Division, with Meier scoring seven goals and 15 points in 24 games.
Meier is eligible to return on Friday as his suspension will be served on Wednesday as the Devils host the St. Louis Blues.

Kelowna Rockets to host the 2026 Memorial Cup

It was announced on Wednesday afternoon that Kelowna, British Columbia, will host the 2026 Memorial Cup.
Established in 1991, this will be the second time the Kelowna Rockets will host the Memorial Cup, as they hosted (and won) the 2004 tournament, their only Memorial Cup in franchise history.
However, the Rockets won the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2003, 2005, 2009, and 2015, making this the sixth time (potentially seventh depending on the 2024-25 season) the team has made the Memorial Cup.
This season, the Rockets are struggling as they have a 9-9-3 record and sit two points outside of a playoff spot in the Western Conference of the Western Hockey League.
