Divisional games hold more weight in today’s NHL – even more when you consider the LA Kings are a team in this division with playoff aspirations. Looking to build off last years success the Kings are playing a very similar style to the Flames. They attack the same, but have had a way better strength in terms of defensive impact. Jonathan Quick vs. Jacob Markstrom is the goaltending match-up.

The Kings have a superior defence right now, but Calgary has the home ice advantage. Regardless the theme today will be about low scoring.

Primary Bet – Total goals 6.5+ UNDER (-140)
By all means take the 7.5 line for that extra goal of insurance – it just pays out -350 at time of writing, this line has the better odds. Calgary has struggled to find consistent offence out of anybody not named Kadri, although Backlund has been driving play at an elite level since his benching. Calgary defends well and gets a warmed up Chris Tanev in this match – and with Tkachuk gone the rough stuff between him and Doughty vanishes leaving less power plays (presumably). It’s why I think we’re in for a tight checking low scoring game.
Secondary Bet – Elias Lindholm to get 1+ points (-150)
Adam Ruzicka has gotten Elias Lindholm going again. Even with Huberdeau coming back after missing three games that line is staying together – lets see if the Flames 40 goal man from last year can get a bit of a point streak going. If he can do that the Flames can crawl back into the divisional playoff picture too.
Tertiary bet – Total shots on goal 62.5 UNDER (-138)
The theme today is limited opportunities lead to less goals – as such it would be a natural correlation to go under on the shots as well. Now if these two teams come out and get into a track meet they’re going to make this look silly, but 14+ games in both teams are starting to showcase how they will regularly play over long stretches.
As usual, bet safe and enjoy the game!
