On Sunday night, the Calgary Flames beat the San Jose Sharks by a 5-2 score. Two of the goals were scored by centre Elias Lindholm, with the Swede lighting the lamp twice by the 35-second mark of the third period.

That rapid goal-scoring made National Hockey League history.

Two goals scored within the first 35 seconds of a period is tied for the eighth-fastest pair of goals by a single player to open a period in NHL history.

But, here’s the historical part: the others all scored their pair of goals in the first or second periods, making Lindholm the record-holder for fastest pair of goals by one player to open a third period in NHL history. (Stick-tap to ESPN’s Arca Ocal for that factoid.)

Is it an obscure record? You bet! But is it still an NHL record? You bet!
