After a pretty successful road trip featuring three overtime games, the Calgary Flames (7-5-3, 17 points) are back at home for the first half of a back to back set. First up? They host the Los Angeles Kings (9-4-3, 21 points), one of their more fierce divisional rivals.
Today’s broadcast begins at 6:30 p.m. MT on Amazon Prime and Sportsnet 960 The Fan. It’s both the first Flames game not on a Sportsnet TV broadcast in years, and it’s the annual Remembrance Day game, where we honour those who have served their country.

The Flames

Here are projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Connor Zary – Nazem Kadri – Yegor Sharangovich
Jonathan Huberdeau – Martin Pospisil – Andrei Kuzmenko
Blake Coleman – Mikael Backlund – Matt Coronato
Ryan Lomberg – Kevin Rooney – Justin Kirkland
Kevin Bahl – Rasmus Andersson
MacKenzie Weegar – Daniil Miromanov
Tyson Barrie – Brayden Pachal
Dustin Wolf is slated to start in net, backed up by Dan Vladar. (Vladar was excellent in the Flames’ season-opener against the Canucks, so it makes sense to go to him on the second half of the set on Tuesday.) The projected extras are Adam Klapka, Jake Bean and Joel Hanley.
Since the beginning of November, the Flames have gone 2-1-2 – their lone regulation loss was to Edmonton. They haven’t played picture perfect hockey, but they’ve battled and made every game a close one. For a team where they are in their developmental arc, that’s a big development and something they deserve credit for. The thing that’s eluded them is in-game consistency, with some tough starts that led to dramatic comebacks.
It’s good that they have dramatic comebacks in their repertoire, you just wish they didn’t have to go to that well so often.

The Kings

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Trevor Lewis – Anze Kopitar – Adrian Kempe
Kevin Fiala – Phillip Danault – Trevor Moore
Alex Laferriere – Quinton Byfield – Warren Foegele
Andre Lee – Samuel Helenius – Akil Thomas
Mikey Anderson – Vladislav Gavrikov
Joel Edmundson – Brandt Clarke
Andreas Englund – Jordan Spence
Darcy Kuemper is projected to start in net, backed up by David Rittich. The projected extras are Kyle Burroughs and Caleb Jones.
Since Nov. 1, the Kings have gone 3-1-1 – their long regulation loss came against Vancouver. The Kings are a pretty formidable hockey club. They have a pretty balanced lineup and they’ve played the same way for basically a decade: fast, physical and structured. They might not have the high-end skill that teams like Vancouver or Edmonton do, but they have a clear identity and when the going gets tough, they lean on that in games.

Unavailable players

The Flames are without Anthony Mantha.

Head to head

This is the first of three meetings between these teams this season – the way the schedule matrix works, the Flames play two divisional foes just three times, and that falls on the Kings and Oilers this season. They meet again in Los Angles on Jan. 8 before concluding their season series in Calgary on Jan. 11.
