Just days before the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Calgary Flames (28-23-9, 65 points) continue a mammoth six game road trip against the Philadelphia Flyers (27-26-8, 62 points). The Flames are four games into their trip and have captured three of a possible eight points. But you can argue that they’ve played fairly well in three of four games, but have found ways to lose… and really struggled to score. Simply put: the Flames need to get their swagger back with the puck, and what better place to start than in Philadelphia against some old friends?
Today’s broadcast begins at 5 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

The Flames

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff (and Sportsnet’s Derek Wills):
Jonathan Huberdeau – Nazem Kadri – Matt Coronato
Blake Coleman – Mikael Backlund – Joel Farabee
Yegor Sharangovich – Morgan Frost – Martin Pospisil
Ryan Lomberg – Kevin Rooney – Connor Zary
Kevin Bahl – Rasmus Andersson
Joel Hanley – MacKenzie Weegar
Jake Bean – Brayden Pachal
We’re projecting Dustin Wolf to make the start in net, backed up by Dan Vladar. We’re projecting Daniil Miromanov, Ilya Solovyov and Adam Klapka as extras.
The Flames are 2-2-1 since the 4 Nations Face-Off break. However, they haven’t scored more than three goals in a game since Jan. 30 against Anaheim; they’re currently in a stretch of 10 games scoring three goals or fewer per game. They’ve scored one goal over their past three games. Combined.
Yeah, the Flames were playing their last three games against an excellent goalie in Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy and the NHL’s two best possession teams in Florida and Carolina. But those games also illustrated some challenges in the Flames’ current approach. They’re a defence-first, low event hockey team, and if they don’t find ways to score goals, even with Dustin Wolf and Dan Vladar playing out of their minds, they won’t go very far.

The Flyers

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Tyson Foerster – Noah Cates – Bobby Brink
Andrei Kuzmenko – Scott Laughton – Travis Konecny
Owen Tippett – Sean Couturier – Matvei Michkov
Nicolas Deslauriers – Ryan Poehling – Jakob Pelletier
Cam York – Travis Sanheim
Nick Seeler – Jamie Drysdale
Egor Zamula – Rasmus Ristolainen
We’re projecting Samuel Ersson to start in net, backed up by Ivan Fedotov (or Alexei Kolosov, as the Flyers are carrying three goalies). Erik Johnson is their lone healthy extra skater.
The Flyers are 3-0-1 since the 4 Nations Face-Off break. They’ve been idle since Saturday night, when they beat the Winnipeg Jets by a 2-1 score in a shootout. They’ve been a team that’s lacked consistency this season, which is why they’re outside of the playoff picture right now, but they’re definitely capable of putting together stretches of strong play.
This is the first time that the Flames will be seeing Jakob Pelletier and Andrei Kuzmenko since the late January trade that sent them to the Flyers in exchange for Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost.

Head to head

This is the finale of the two-game season series. Back in October, the Flames beat the Flyers by a 6-3 score in their home-opener.
