After losing by five goals against Toronto on St. Patrick’s Day, the Calgary Flames (30-25-11, 71 points) will attempt to right the ship when they face the New York Rangers (33-29-6, 72 points) on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. The Flames, despite some recent losses and lapses, are very much in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race. But they’ll need to start racking up points while they still have games in hand on the teams they’re chasing.
Today’s broadcast begins at 5 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

Alright, so here’s our thinking line-up wise, pending whatever intel we can glean from the Flames’ post-game media visits. Dustin Wolf was pulled after 40 minutes against Toronto, with Dan Vladar playing the third period. We’re anticipating seeing Vladar against the Rangers. Connor Zary returns to the lineup, as his suspension has been served, so that will likely bump either Dryden Hunt or Adam Klapka to the press box. Daniil Miromanov was the healthy scratch against Toronto.
Man, the Flames have generally been a good five-on-five team this season. But their special teams let them down against Toronto, and they’ll need to either take fewer penalties or generate more at even strength if they want to bounce back from their one-sided loss to the Leafs. The Flames are capable of going toe-to-toe with just about anybody in the league, but they need to be better than they were in Toronto.

Via reporting from Rangers morning skate, Igor Shesterkin is expected to start in net, backed up by Jonathan Quick. The Rangers’ extras are Brennan Othmann, Carson Soucy and Calvin de Haan.
The Rangers lost to the Oilers on Sunday, which ended a nice run of results for them in the form of back-to-back wins. Prior to that, they had lost four in a row (0-2-2). The Rangers have been a streaky group this season, and their unfortunate habit of losing at poor times has sapped some of their momentum in the Eastern Conference’s playoff race. They’re a club with a lot of good pieces, but it just doesn’t seem to be coming together the way they had hoped to this season.
Unavailable players
The Flames are without Anthony Mantha, Justin Kirkland and Mikael Backlund.
The Rangers are without Adam Edstrom and Arthur Kaliyev.
