The 2025-26 National Hockey League season has now concluded, and the league has locked in the positioning for all of the picks in the upcoming 2026 NHL Draft.
The Calgary Flames have a lot of draft capital amassed from trades over the past few seasons, and they’re entering the 2026 draft weekend with the most picks they’ve had early in a draft. They’ve had more first-rounders before, but the amount of picks in the first few rounds is unprecedented in franchise history.
Via the league, here, officially, here are the Flames’ 11 draft picks:
Round 1, 6th overall – Calgary’s own pick
Round 1, 30th overall – Vegas’ pick
The Flames acquired Vegas’ first-round pick back in 2024. The full trade: Noah Hanifin at 50% retained to Vegas in exchange for Daniil Miromanov, a 2024 third-round pick (used to take Kirill Zarubin) and this 2026 first-round pick.
Round 2, 35th overall – the NY Rangers’ pick
The Flames acquired the Rangers’ second-round pick from Utah back in March. Utah received the pick from the Rangers in July 2022 in a trade that sent Ty Emberson to the Rangers. (At the time Utah were still the Arizona Coyotes.) The Flames got the pick from the Mammoth in March 2026 in a trade that sent MacKenzie Weegar to Utah.
Round 2, 36th overall – Calgary’s own pick
Round 2, 51st overall – Utah’s pick
The Flames got this pick from the Mammoth in March 2026 in a trade that sent MacKenzie Weegar to Utah.
Round 2, 55th overall – Ottawa’s pick
The Flames acquired the Senators’ second-round pick from Utah back in March. Utah received the pick from the Senators in March 2023 in a trade that sent Jacob Chychrun to the Senators. (Again, at the time Utah were still the Arizona Coyotes). The Flames got the pick from the Mammoth in March 2026 in a trade that sent MacKenzie Weegar to Utah. That full trade: Weegar to Utah in exchange for Olli Maatta, Jonathan Castagna and the three second-round picks (Utah’s, Ottawa’s and the Rangers’).
Round 3, 65th overall – Vancouver’s pick
The Flames acquired the Canucks’ third-round pick from Vancouver back in November 2023. The full trade: Nikita Zadorov to Vancouver in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick (Vancouver’s; later traded to San Jose for Nikita Okhotiuk) and a 2026 third-round pick (also Vancouver’s).
Round 3, 68th overall – Calgary’s own pick
Round 4, 100th overall – Calgary’s own pick
Round 5, 132nd overall – Calgary’s own pick
Round 6, 164th overall – Calgary’s own pick
The Flames traded their seventh-round pick, 196th overall, to Detroit at last year’s draft so they could get an additional 2025 seventh-round pick and draft both Russian centre Yan Matveiko and Swedish blueliner Jakob Leander in the seventh round.
This is the third consecutive year where the Flames have multiple first-round picks, and the fifth time overall. The previous times were in 1974, 2013, 2024 and 2025. They have two first-rounders in next year’s draft, too.
Six picks in the first two rounds and eight picks in the first three rounds is the most the Flames have ever had in a single draft.
Do you think the Flames should make all of these picks? Which players should they target? Let us know in the comments!
