It was announced this week that top prospect for the Calgary Flames, Matt Coronato, was named to the Ivy League&#8217;s first All-Star team for his regular season performance with Harvard University&#8217;s men&#8217;s hockey team.

Coronato has had an excellent sophomore year in Cambridge, scoring 33 points in 29 games. He almost hit the 20-goal mark but fell short with 19, still the team&#8217;s highest. The 20-year-old forward passed his goal total from last season (18), and he&#8217;s sure to pass his last season&#8217;s total of 36 points in 34 games. He had 10 multi-point games and 5 multi-goal games
Harvard&#8217;s overall record this season was 21-6-2, aided by the former 13th overall pick&#8217;s efforts. He was the team&#8217;s third-leading scorer behind two other players that got Ivy League honours&#8211;Montreal Canadiens prospect Sean Farrell and Los Angeles Kings prospect Alex Laferriere. Their first playoff series comes against Princeton University in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) quarterfinals.
Flames general manager Brad Treliving said in his post-deadline press conference that Coronato was a player they would focus on signing when Harvard&#8217;s season ended, probably close to the end of the Flames&#8217; season as well. Something that&#8217;s important to Calgary&#8217;s top prospect is understanding what his role is going to be as the team moves forward in one direction (running it back) or another (selling off assets).
Obviously, no one wants to sit in the press box or be relegated to the bottom six if they feel they could get a better opportunity somewhere else, especially given where the Flames are in the standings and where they might be headed in the near future. It&#8217;s also of paramount importance that the Flames lock him down, as everyone knows their history with signing prospects that are coming out of college.
Nonetheless, Coronato has had an excellent year in the NCAA, and he&#8217;s looking to further that in the postseason and, hopefully, bring back a championship as the number six ranked team in the nation.
