It was a quiet week for Calgary Flames prospects.
For the second consecutive week, Trevor Hoskin was the standout among prospects playing at the collegiate and junior levels, as well as the three prospects over in Europe. There were still some bright spots, like Joe Iginla’s two-goal, four-point performance.
Let’s take a look at how Flames’ prospects performed for the week of Oct. 28 – Nov. 3!
College
Most Flames’ prospects at the college level were in action, including Aidan Lane who began his season in late October.
NCHC
It wasn’t a great week for Carson Carels and Cole Reschny’s North Dakota, falling 5-3 to Cullen Potter and Jack Hextall’s Michigan State. Both Carels and Reschny were held off the scoresheet, though Reschny picked up a pair of minor penalties. This season, Reschny has four goals and eight points in eight games, and Carels has four assists in seven games.
Eric Jamieson’s Denver had a strong week, picking up a pair of victories over Omaha. On Friday, they won 2-1, followed by a 4-1 victory the following night. As has been the case throughout the season, Jamieson was held off the scoresheet as he still looks for his first point after eight games.
Cade Littler and his Arizona State Sun Devils split their two games against St. Cloud State, picking up a 3-2 victory on Oct. 30, but falling 2-1 on Halloween. Through seven games this season, the 22-year-old has three assists and is a -7.
Like Arizona State, Miami (Ohio) split their two NCHC games, defeating St. Thomas 2-1 on Friday, but followed it up with a 4-1 loss on Saturday. Flames’ prospect Yegor Yegorov didn’t appear in either game, as he still has a .909 save percentage and 2.01 goals against average in his lone game played this season.
Carels and Reschny are back in action this coming weekend, playing a pair of home games against Western Michigan. Jamieson and Littler’s universities will meet for two games this weekend, as Arizona State hosts both. Miami (Ohio) has another two games against NCHC competition this weekend, playing Minnesota Duluth twice on the road.
ECAC Hockey
After a 4-3 loss to Army on Oct. 23, Ethan Wyttenbach’s Quinnipiac responded with a 5-1 victory over Providence on Halloween. Wyttenbach was back on the scoresheet, picking up an assist on a power play goal to give him four goals and 12 points in seven games this season
Aidan Lane’s Harvard finally got their season underway this past week, splitting their two games against UMass. Thursday’s home game was a 2-1 victory, but it was followed up by a 4-2 loss on Friday. Lane scored the opening goal in the loss, his lone point through the two games.
This week, Quinnipiac plays a pair of road games, taking on Cornell on Friday and Colgate on Saturday. As for Lane’s Harvard, they take on Brown on Friday and Yale on Saturday, two in-conference match-ups at home.
Hockey East
On the other side of the Harvard/UMass match-up were Flame prospects Egor Barabanov, Max Curran, and Tobias Trejbal. Barbanov didn’t pick up a point and Trejbal didn’t appear in the game. In the 4-2 victory, Barabanov picked up a pair of assists, while Trejbal was on the bench. Curran missed both games with an injury.
Of the three, Barabanov has found the most success, scoring two goals and five points through nine games. Trejbal has appeared in just two games and has an .878 save percentage and 3.76 goals against average, while Curran has been held pointless through six games.
Trevor Hoskin is a legitimate prospect who could play games for the Flames in the next two seasons. His Merrimack picked up a 5-4 victory on Friday, but fell 6-5 in a shootout, with both games being played against Connecticut. Over the two games, Hoskin picked up three assists, giving him two goals and 11 points through eight games this season.
Jaden Lipinski’s Maine didn’t have a great week 7-2 and 3-2 in overtime to Boston University, bringing their conference record to 0-2-0. Lipinski was held off the scoresheet in the blowout loss, but picked up an assist on Maine’s first goal in the 3-2 overtime loss, a game where they held a 2-0 lead in the third period. Lipinski’s assist was his first point of the season through seven games, though he is a +4.
The three Flames’ prospects at UMass are back in action this weekend, playing a pair of road games against Lipinski’s Maine. Merrimack only plays one game this week, taking on Holy Cross on Friday.
Big Ten
Michigan State’s lone game was a 5-3 victory over North Dakota. While Carels and Reschny were held off the score sheet, Cullen Potter picked up an assist, while Jack Hextall took a tripping penalty. Potter has a goal and three points in six games, while Hextall has a pair of goals and four points in six games.
Henry Mews and Michigan split their two games against Ohio State, falling 5-2 on Saturday, but responding with a 5-4 overtime victory on Sunday. Mews picked up an assist in the loss, giving him five helpers in nine games this season.
Luke Misa’s Penn State played a pair of games that went to overtime, picking up a 2-1 shootout victory on Friday, before falling 4-3 in overtime on Saturday, both games were played against Minnesota. Misa was held off the scoresheet, as he has a goal and two points in seven games this season.
This week, Michigan State played a pair of home games against Boston University on the weekend. The other team based in Michigan is off, as their next game is against Penn State on Nov. 13. Before their match-up against Michigan, Misa’s Penn State will play a pair of games against Notre Dame at home over the weekend.
Canadian Hockey League
There were some solid performances in the Canadian Hockey League. Iginla had three solid games, but Chase Harrington picked up some more points as well.
Western Hockey League
It was a tough week for Jakob Leander and Bode Laylin’s Calgary Hitmen this past week. On Friday, they fell 5-2 to the Red Deer Rebels, before dropping a 3-2 decision in a shootout to the Kamloops Blazers. Laylin picked up an assist in the 5-2 loss, and both Laylin and Leander were a +1 in the shootout loss. Leander has two assists in his 14 games played, while Laylin has two goals and eight points in 15 games.
The team down Highway 1, the Medicine Hat Tigers, went 2-1-0 this past week. They fell 7-2 to the Wenatchee Wild, beat Chase Harrington and the Spokane Chiefs 4-3 in a shootout, before finishing the week off with a 5-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Halloween. Flames’ prospect Mace’o Phillips picked up an assist against the Chiefs, giving him a goal and five points in 14 games.
That match-up against the Tigers happened to be the lone game that the Chiefs played this week. Harrington picked up a pair of assists, giving him six goals and 19 points through 11 games this season.
Joe Iginla’s Vancouver Giants didn’t have a great week, falling 3-1 to the Portland Winterhawks and 5-4 to the Prince George Cougars, with a 6-1 victory over the Victoria Royals sandwiched between the losses. Iginla had a solid week, scoring their lone goal in the 3-1 loss, then scored a goal and picked up two helpers in their other loss. Iginla has five goals and 10 points in 16 games this season.
Iggy!
Joe Iginla scores!!! The @NHLFlames prospect puts the Giants within two! Cougars lead 4 - 2
It’ll be a busy week for the Hitmen, as they play four games over the week. They’ll play the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday, the Saskatoon Blades on Friday, and the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday, all games on the road. They’ll return home to the Saddledome to host the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday.
This week, the Tigers continue their trip in the United States, taking on the Winterhawks on Wednesday, the Everett Silvertips on Friday, and the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday. Iginla’s Giants host the Americans on Friday, the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, and the Chiefs on Tuesday.
The Chiefs hit the road this week, taking on the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday, before a pair of match-ups against the Winterhawks. They’ll wrap up their week in a match-up against the Giants.
Ontario Hockey League
Over in the Ontario Hockey League, Šimon Katolický’s Sarnia Sting have continued to struggle. They fell 4-3 to the Owen Sound Attack on Wednesday, 4-3 to the Erie Otters on Friday, and 5-1 to the Flint Firebirds on Sunday. Katolický’s lone point, an assist, came in the loss to the Attack, as he now has five goals and nine points in 17 games this season.
Next up for the Sting is a trio of home games before one road game. They’ll host the Attack on Wednesday, the Brantford Bulldogs on Friday, and the London Knights on Sunday. Next Tuesday, they’ll head north to take on the North Bay Battalion.
Europe
Over in Europe, the two Flames’ prospects playing at the professional rank picked up a goal, the second consecutive week this has happened.
Sweden
Theo Stockselius’ Djurgårdens IF picked up a pair of victories this past week, defeating HV71 by a score of 3-0, followed by a 3-2 victory over Brynäs IF. The Flames’ second-rounder in 2025 picked up his third goal of the season in the 3-2 win, giving him three goals and six points in 15 games, not too bad for a 19-year-old in the Swedish Hockey League.
Ögon i nacken 🎯
Stockselius will be off this coming week, before returning with a match-up against Färjestad BK on Nov. 12.
Russia
Yan Matveiko’s Zvezda Moskva played one game this past week, falling 5-2 to HC Norilski. Matveiko scored a goal, his third goal and seventh point in 16 All-Russian Hockey League (VHL) games this season. This week, Zvezda takes on Sokol on Wednesday, Metallurg Nk on Friday, and Dyano-Altai on Sunday.
Alan Shaikhlislamov’s Tolpar were off, meaning he was inactive this week. Through 13 Junior Hockey League (MHL) games, the Flames’ second rounder has nine goals and 17 points. Tolpar is back in action on Nov. 7 in a match-up against Avto.
