Over the weekend, the Calgary Flames added to their stockpile of young prospects with nine selections at the 2026 NHL Draft.
On Tuesday, USA Hockey announced their invites to the upcoming World Junior Summer Showcase, being held in Windsor, Ontario in late July. On that roster were four Flames prospects: defenceman Mace’o Phillips and forwards Jack Hextall, Cullen Potter and Ethan Wyttenbach.
With four prospects on the invite list, the Flames have the most representation of any NHL club.
A left shot defenceman, Phillips was a third-round selection by the Flames in the 2025 NHL Draft. He’s listed at 6’6″ and 234 pounds. He spent last season with the United States Hockey League’s Green Bay Gamblers and he’s committed to the University of Minnesota. He’s previously represented the United States at the Under-17 Hockey Challenge, the Under-18 World Championships and the Junior A World Challenge, capturing silver (U17s), bronze (U18s) and gold (Junior As).
A right shot centre, Hextall was a first-round selection by the Flames in the 2026 NHL Draft. He’s listed at 6’1″ and 185 pounds. He spent last season with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms and he’s committed to Michigan State University. He’s previously represented the United States at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the Junior A World Challenge, capturing gold at both events.
A left shot centre, Potter was a first-round selection by the Flames in the 2025 NHL Draft. He’s listed at 5’10” and 170 pounds. He spent last season with the NCAA’s Arizona State University Sun Devils and he transferred to Michigan State University during the spring. He’s previously represented the United States at the Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the Under-18 World Championships, winning silver (U17s) and bronze (U18s).
A right shot winger, Wyttenbach was a fifth-round selection by the Flames at the 2025 NHL Draft. He’s listed at 5’10” and 181 pounds. He spent last season with the NCAA’s Quinnipiac University, where he was the nation’s leading scorer. He’s never represented the United States at a major event.
The 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship takes place in Edmonton and Red Deer from Dec. 26, 2026 to Jan. 5, 2027, and features players born in 2007 or later. The Summer Showcase, a precursor event meant as a summer evaluation camp, features the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland, and runs July 22-Aug. 1 in Windsor, Ontario.
