Folks, the Calgary Flames have made a lot of draft selections in the past few years. And as a result of making a lot of draft selections, they have a lot of prospects within their system.
With so many prospects playing in so many different leagues, ranging from North America to Europe and junior and college hockey, we’ve put together this handy primer of where you can watch Flames prospects during the 2026-27 season.
Let’s run things down.
Canadian major junior
Western Hockey League
Jakob Leander – Calgary Hitmen
The Hitmen selected Leander during the 2026 CHL Import Draft. Leander joins the Hitmen for his 19-year-old season after four seasons with HV71 in Sweden, including spending the 2025-26 campaign as an alternate captain for its under-20 team.
Bode Laylin – Everett Silvertips
After two full seasons (and parts of a third) with the USHL’s Tri-City Storm, Laylin is headed to Everett for his 19-year-old season. He’s committed to the University of St. Thomas for 2027-28.
Mace’o Phillips – Medicine Hat Tigers
After two seasons with the U.S. National Development Program and one with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers, Phillips is headed to Medicine Hat for his 19-year-old season.
Chase Harrington – Spokane Chiefs
With three full seasons under his belt (and a portion of a fourth), Harrington is returning to the Chiefs for his 19-year-old season.
Joe Iginla – Vancouver Giants
Iginla’s headed back for his 18-year-old season, his third full WHL season, when he returns to the Giants for 2026-27.
Ontario Hockey League
Simon Katolicky – Sarnia Sting
After being selected by Sarnia in the 2025 CHL Import Draft, Katolicky is headed to the Sting for his 18-year-old season after spending a pair of campaigns with Tappara’s under-20 club in Finland’s U20 SM-sarja.
American college hockey
Big 10
Cullen Potter and Jack Hextall – Michigan State University Spartans
A pair of Flames first-rounders will land at Michigan State in 2026-27. Potter heads in as a transfer after two seasons at Arizona State University, including a sophomore year cut short by injury back in January. Hextall comes in as a freshman after two seasons with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms.
Henry Mews – University of Michigan Wolverines
After having his freshman year end prematurely due to an injury, Mews is returning for his sophomore season and coming back to a Michigan squad that was a powerhouse before losing to Denver in double overtime in the national semi-final game.
Luke Misa – Penn State University Nittany Lions
Misa is returning for his sophomore year for a Penn State club that lost Gavin McKenna to the pro ranks, but has also added a slew of impressive young talent – including first-round pick Jaxon Cover and second-rounder Yegor Shilov.
National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC)
Cade Littler – Arizona State University Sun Devils
After two seasons with North Dakota, Littler joins Arizona State as a transfer for his junior year. The Sun Devils are coming off a disappointing 2025-26 season – and losing Cullen Potter to the transfer portal – but they’re hoping for a rebound in 2026-27 with a bunch of new faces.
Eric Jamieson – University of Denver Pioneers
After winning an NCAA national championship as a freshman, Jamieson is headed back for his sophomore year. Spoiler: Denver would like to win another natty, and have bolstered their roster with newbies like Blake Fiddler and Daxon Rudolph.
Yegor Yegorov – Miami University RedHawks
After spending a few seasons bouncing around Russian junior and minor-league hockey – and posting pretty good results despite a lack of a defined role – Yegorov is headed to college, joining Miami… of Ohio as a freshman.
Cole Reschny and Carson Carels – University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks
Last spring, the Fighting Hawks lost a nail-biter to Wisconsin in the national semi-final. They’re bringing back a good deal of their big guns for this season, and adding new weapons such as Carels, as they try to win a national championship. (The Ruck twins don’t join them until the 2027-28 season.) Reschny’s back for his sophomore year, Carels will be a freshman.
ECAC Hockey
Aidan Lane – Harvard University Crimson
Lane is back for his sophomore year with the Crimson after a rock-solid freshman year.
Ethan Wyttenbach – Quinnipiac University Bobcats
After a breakout year that saw him emerge as the NCAA’s leading scorer and top freshman – like, among all collegiate players – Wyttenbach is back for his sophomore year as the Bobcats eye a national title.
Hockey East
Jaden Lipinski – University of Maine Black Bears
Lipinski is back for a sophomore campaign at Maine.
Max Curran, Egor Barabanov and Tobias Trejbal – University of Massachusetts Minutemen
A trio of freshmen Flames prospects join the Minutemen in the form of Barabanov, a Russian, and Curran and Trejbal, a pair of Czechs.
Trevor Hoskin – Merrimack College Warriors
After an impressive freshman year at Niagara University and a pretty strong sophomore showing after a transfer to Merrimack, including a tremendous underdog run through their conference playoffs, Hoskin is back for his junior season.
European hockey
Russia
Yan Matveiko – HC Krasnaya Armiya Moskva (MHL)
Matveiko signed a two year extension with the CKSA Moskva organization – the historic Red Army – at the end of June. He could play in the junior MHL (Molodezhnaya Hokkeinaya Liga) or the minor-league VHL (Vserossiyskaya Hokkeinaya Liga) or the KHL at some point next season.
Alan Shaikhlislamov – MHC Tolpar Ufa (MHL)
Shaikhlislamov is headed back to the MHL for his third season with Tolpar Ufa.
Sweden
Theo Stockselius – Djurgardens IF (SHL)
After signing his entry-level deal with the Flames back in May, Stockselius will spend his 19-year-old season – his contract’s slide year – on loan back to his old club team, the SHL’s Djurgardens IF.
