On Tuesday, Vancouver Canucks head coach, Bruce Boudreau, joined Matty Rose and Nick Alberga during the second hour of The Big Show on Sportsnet 960 The Fan to discuss the NHL off-season, specifically that of the Calgary Flames.  Boudreau, who recently exercised his second year option to return as the Canucks head coach, had some praises to throw in the direction of Flames management, their newest acquisitions, and the head coach.

Rose and Alberga started off their chat by asking Boudreau about the new look Flames, which he had this to say:
<blockquote>You look at him [Huberdeau] and you look at Gaudreau, both tremendously skilled, so I mean I&#8217;ve got to believe that it’s a wash for talent. Then you’ve got Tkachuk and Kadri and Weegar. Kadri has got that sandpaper that Tkachuk would bring to the Flames, and Weegar is a pretty solid top four defenceman. I guess what I would say in the end is that I don’t think Calgary got worse, and that’s a bad sign for everybody else in the Pacific. Kudos to the Flames in making those moves because they didn’t get any worse.</blockquote>
That&#8217;s some pretty high praise directed towards the Flames management team coming from a highly tenured NHL voice, let alone a voice from within the Pacific Division. When other teams from the same division are vocally taking notice, that&#8217;s when you know you&#8217;ve done something right.
Boudreau was then asked about whether or not he had ever been involved in this kind of an off-season in his NHL career, and had this to say about it:
<blockquote>Not superstar free agents leaving and then acquiring superstars back in a trade. Management has done a tremendous job there. I know Darryl well enough that whoever is put in there is going to do a great job with them. It’s been a roller coaster summer for the Flames but in the end, they are just as excited with the team going into September than the team they did have, I’m pretty sure.</blockquote>
Once again, some high praises coming from Boudreau, particularly in regards to Darryl Sutter and how he expects the Flames bench boss to accommodate to the changes made to the roster by upper management. Although the story of the new acquisitions under a Sutter system has yet to be written yet, Boudreau recognized that the Sutter system is one that players can succeed in.
Although Boudreau is only &#8220;pretty sure&#8221; that the team is just as excited with this team as they were with last years, one thing is for certain. Flames fans have a lot to look forward to going into the 2022-23 campaign.
