After two low-event games in Calgary, the Flames and the Dallas Stars headed to Texas for Game 3 on Saturday night. Game 3 featured more scoring chances and oodles of penalties. In a game where the lead swung a couple times, the Stars held on for a 4-2 home ice victory to take a 2-1 series lead.
Head coach Darryl Sutter
On how the game unfolded: “Hard fought. Close games. We had a breakaway with, what, two or three minutes left? Those guys gotta put it away. That’s their job.”
On losing a close game: “You’ve gotta play the whole game. We knew they were gonna come out. [Lewis] scores a big goal to go 1-1. Lindy scores a big goal to go 2-1. We have chances to go up 3-1 before it’s 2-2. Gotta do it.”
On the team’s offensive chances: “We had some good looks. Started to get pucks to the net. Some bounces the other way, probably would’ve had a one or two goal lead. But we gotta find a way to finish. I think the strength of our game is five-on-five and we spent too much time with ticky-tacky four-on-four hockey.”
On the team’s attitude through three games: “That’s why you play seven. Our group still feels really good. Really confident in our ability. We win one game and we got home ice back, that’s the goal coming in here. There’s no panic in our room. We’ve got lots of guys who’ve been there and been in these situations. Like i said, it’s seven games for a reason.”
On the officiating and his third period penalty: “Being a ref is one of the most difficult jobs out there. I think, I will say, I think if you’re going to call the ticky-tacky stuff with seven minutes left, you better call the high sticks with a couple minutes left in the game. I mean, you gotta call if both ways in my opinion, if you’re gonna do it that way. Otherwise you let it play. Which I’m fine with either way, but you’d like to see it be balanced. But like I said: if they don’t see it, they don’t see it.”
