Flames 2025-26 second quarter report cards: forwards

Folks, we’re midway through the 2025-26 Calgary Flames regular season schedule, with the red team playing their 41st game of the campaign against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night.
And that means it’s time for player report cards!
As noted in the first part, we’re unveiling second quarter report cards for the Flames, covering the period between Nov. 19 (their 22nd game) through Jan. 3 (their 41st game). As noted, we’re focusing just on the second quarter segment, and a player has to have played in five games or more to get a letter grade.
We’ve already discussed defencemen and goaltenders in part one, so onto the forwards here in part two.
Forwards
#10 – Jonathan Huberdeau – C+
Huberdeau had sort of an up and down quarter, playing primarily with Morgan Frost and Matt Coronato. On one hand, he has 12 points. On the other hand, his play has been pretty streaky and he’s been a fixture on a power play that hasn’t scored a ton. We’ll split the difference and go with this grade.
#11 – Mikael Backlund – A-
Facing the toughest opposition on the team as their shutdown centre, Backlund had two impressive stats in Q2: 16 points and +16. It’s hard to really quibble with his output. He’s been strong.
#15 – Dryden Hunt – no grade
Hunt only played twice. He was perfectly fine.
#16 – Morgan Frost – C+
Frost played most of the quarter with Jonathan Huberdeau and Matt Coronato. As with Huberdeau, Frost was streaky in Q2. He had nine points, but he was also minus-7.
#17 – Yegor Sharangovich – C+
Sharangovich played primarily with Nazem Kadri and Joel Farabee. He had nine points, but his production was fairly sporadic.
#18 – John Beecher – C
Beecher had two points and was minus-4 as a fourth-liner. He was solid on the penalty kill, though.
#20 – Blake Coleman – A-
Like his linemate, Mikael Backlund, Coleman had a good quarter. He had 13 points and was plus-13 while playing some tough match-ups and killing penalties.
#23 – Justin Kirkland – no grade
Kirkland played just one game in the second quarter. He was fine.
#27 – Matt Coronato – B
On one hand, Coronato had 14 points during the quarter while playing primarily with Jonathan Huberdeau and Morgan Frost. On the other hand, even with that offensive production he was a minus-2.
#43 – Adam Klapka – C+
Klapka had three points over the past 20 games. He’s been given opportunities further up the lineup than his fellow fourth-liners, so we’re holding that against him a bit when judging his offensive production.
#45 – Sam Morton – no grade
Morton played two games and was pretty good when he was in the lineup.
#47 – Connor Zary – B-
Zary had 11 points in Q2. He played primarily with Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman during this time-frame and was generally pretty solid.
#70 – Ryan Lomberg – B-
Lomberg had 4 points in 16 games. Given his fourth line role, that’s pretty decent value.
#86 – Joel Farabee – B-
Farabee had a pretty good quarter offensively, posting 11 points while playing with Yegor Sharangovich and Nazem Kadri. He was also solid on the penalty kill.
#91 – Nazem Kadri – A
Kadri had 20 points over the 20 game quarter, equating to a point-per-game. Given his role is to generate offence, we can’t fault him for much.
