After one victory over the past week in four games along the American east coast, the Calgary Flames (26-33-7, 59 points) look to end the trip on a positive note when the face the Detroit Red Wings (36-23-8, 80 points). The Red Wings have had a strong season and seem poised for a trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs, while the Flames are looking to the future. Can the Flames find a full 60 minute effort against Detroit?
Today’s broadcast begins at 5 p.m. MT on Amazon Prime and Sportsnet 960 The Fan. Remember: this is not on any Sportsnet TV properties. It’s Monday and it’s on Prime.

The Flames

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Blake Coleman – Mikael Backlund – Joel Farabee
Matvei Gridin – Morgan Frost – Matt Coronato
Yegor Sharangovich – Ryan Strome – Victor Olofsson
Ryan Lomberg – Connor Zary – Adam Klapka
Kevin Bahl – Zach Whitecloud
Olli Maatta – Hunter Brzustewicz
Joel Hanley – Zayne Parekh
Per reports from the road from Sportsnet’s Derek Wills: Dustin Wolf is expected to start, backed up by Devin Cooley. The projected extras are Brayden Pachal, John Beecher and Martin Pospisil. (Tyson Gross has been added to the NHL roster but we don’t think he’s skated with the group, so he’s likely not an option yet.) Yan Kuznetsov didn’t skate on Monday morning after leaving Saturday’s game against Detroit a couple times so he seems likely to miss Monday’s game.
The Flames are a scrappy bunch, but they’re admittedly a bit depleted. When Nazem Kadri and MacKenzie Weegar are wearing different sweaters, your team is gonna be a little less dangerous. The Flames are 2-6-1 over their last night games. And while they’ve been full participants in many of them – they haven’t frequently gotten their show run – they’ve been chasing a lot in games.
They’ll need three strong, structured periods to get a favourable result in Detroit.

The Red Wings

Projected lines via Daily Faceoff:
Alex Debrincat – J.T. Compher – Patrick Kane
David Perron – Marco Kasper – Lucas Raymond
John Leonard – Emmitt Finnie – James van Riemsdyk
Dominik Shine – Sheldon Dries – Mason Appleton
Simon Edvinsson – Moritz Seider
Ben Chiarot – Justin Faulk
Albert Johansson – Jacob Bernard-Docker
We’re projecting John Gibson to start in net, backed up by Cam Talbot. The projected extras are Travis Hamonic and Axel Sandin-Pellikka.
The Red Wings are back at home after a four game road trip that was a real mixed bag. They began with a shutout win over New Jersey, then lost to Florida and Tampa in regulation and Dallas in overtime. They’re probably looking at the 31st-place Flames as an opportunity to halt their skid, build some momentum, and position themselves for a good push over the last chunk of games as they build towards the post-season.

Unavailable players

The Flames are without Sam Honzek, Jake Bean, Jonathan Huberdeau and Yan Kuznetsov.
The Red Wings are without Andrew Copp, Dylan Larkin, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Michael Rasmussen.
