Flames lose Brad Richardson on waivers, claimed by Vancouver

The Calgary Flames have made a roster move on deadline day. Forward Brad Richardson has been claimed off the waiver wire by the Vancouver Canucks.
Richardson, 37, was a free agent signing over the summer, reuniting with Darryl Sutter, a coach he won a Stanley Cup for in 2012.
But Richardson was a fourth line centre for the Flames, and only occasionally. He struggled with injuries and inconsistency and only played 27 games for the Flames, amassing two goals and four points in that span. He was a solid depth player for the Flames, but he was placed on waivers because the Flames wanted roster and cap flexibility and he was seemingly the easiest guy to move out.
The claim opens up a roster spot and $800,000 in cap space for the Flames an hour before the 2022 NHL trade deadline.
