Over the last little bit, we’ve started to see more and more Calgary Flames prospects get their seasons going. First it was the Europeans. Then it was Canadian major junior.
This week, the collegiate prospects got going, with Arsenii Sergeev posting a shutout in his first weekend with Penn State and super sophomore Aydar Suniev notching a hat trick in UMass’ season-opener.
Up next? The Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League begin their season on Friday at the palatial, historic Scotiabank Saddledome. (Good seats still available!)
Let’s dive into the prospect update!

Andrew Basha – LW/C, Medicine Hat Tigers, WHL

18; Calgary’s second round pick (41st overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft; 5’11”, 174 pounds; shoots left; FN’s 5th-ranked prospect 2024

Basha hasn’t quite hit his stride yet after Flames camp, but he continues to be pretty productive.
He scored a sweet goal on Wednesday, too.

Jacob Battaglia – LW, Kingston Frontenacs, OHL

Battaglia has (at least) a point in every single game so far this season. He is among the OHL’s offensive leaders, and every single point he’s scored has been a primary point. He good.

Jake Boltmann – D, Northeastern University Huskies, NCAA/Hockey East

The Flames still have Boltmann’s rights, we’re told, due to the mess that the COVID-19 pandemic created in terms of NCAA rights and whatnots. He’s a grad student and an alternate captain with Northeastern. They beat Quinnipiac in an exhibition game this weekend.

Matvei Gridin – RW, Shawinigan Cataractes, QMJHL
