Despite being among the cuts earlier today, Flames 2019 first round pick Jakob Pelletier probably didn’t have a bad day overall. The prospect signed his first NHL contract today with the Flames, a three year ELC.
There are currently no details about the deal, other than the length, but it should be a standard $925K AAV.
The left winger, praised for his intelligence and two-way play, is headed back to the Moncton Wildcats for another season after posting a 89 point year in 2018-19. He’ll likely be the Wildcats’ most important player, and should see heavy time on both ends of special teams in addition to leading the way at 5v5.
Pelletier is the first in the 2019 draft class to be signed. With the exception of seventh round pick Dustin Wolf, every other player from the 2019 draft is either under contract in Europe or can’t sign due to the NCAA, so don’t expect any other 2019 draftee signings soon.
