A little while ago, we ran through the entirety of the Calgary Flames’ reserve list to show what the organizational roster looked like heading into the 2025 NHL Draft, qualifying offers and free agency.
Well, those events have come and gone.
So what does the Flames organizational roster look like now, and how is the NHL lineup shaping up heading into the rest of the summer?

Goaltenders

[5 under contract]
Name
Age
Contract Details
Ivan Prosvetov
26
$950,000 (one-way)
Dustin Wolf
24
$850,000 (one-way)
Devin Cooley
28
$775,000 (one-way)
Owen Say
24
$872,500 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Arsenii Sergeev
22
$866,250 (two-way, waiver exempt)
In the system: Kirill Zarubin (MHL), Yegor Yegorov (MHL), Daniil Chechelev (VHL)
The NHL tandem will be Dustin Wolf backed up by either Ivan Prosvetov or Devin Cooley. The AHL tandem will be Prosvetov or Cooley, whoever’s not in the NHL, and likely a rotation of Owen Say and Arsenii Sergeev (who’ll likely both spend some time in ECHL Rapid City to get game reps in).
All-in-all, the goalies are pretty straightforward, and there’s minimal chances of a prospect breaking through… because that already happened last year with Wolf.

Defencemen

[14 under contract; 2 RFAs]
Name [Shot]
Age
Contract Details
MacKenzie Weegar [R]
31
$6.25 million (one-way/no-trade)
Kevin Bahl [L]
26
$5.35 million (one-way)
Rasmus Andersson [R]
28
$4.55 million (one-way/modified no-trade)
Jake Bean [L]
27
$1.75 million (one-way)
Joel Hanley [L]
34
$1.75 million (one-way)
Daniil Miromanov [R]
27
$1.25 million (one-way)
Brayden Pachal [R]
25
$1.19 million (one-way)
Ilya Solovyov [L]
24
$775,000 (one-way)
Zayne Parekh [R]
19
$942,500 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Hunter Brzustewicz [R]
20
$950,000 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Etienne Morin [L]
20
$871,666 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Joni Jurmo [L]
23
$850,000 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Artem Grushnikov [L]
22
$814,167 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Nick Cicek [L]
25
$775,000 (two-way)
In the system: Mace’o Phillips (WHL/USHL), Axel Hurtig (WHL), Eric Jamieson (NCAA), Henry Mews (NCAA), Jakob Leander (Sweden), Jake Boltmann (NCAA; rights expiring)
RFAs: Yan Kuznetsov (RFA), Jeremie Poirier (RFA)
Once Kuznetsov and Poirier, both lefties, re-up, the Flames will have 16 blueliners under contract. That’ll give them 10 lefties and six righties.
Barring the departure of Rasmus Andersson, here’s roughly how things seem to look in terms of tiers:
  • NHL locks [5]: Weegar, Bahl, Andersson, Hanley, Pachal
  • NHL probables [4]: Bean, Miromanov, Solovyov, Parekh
  • NHL dark horses [2]: Brzustewicz, Kuznetsov
  • AHLers [5]: Morin, Jurmo, Grushnikov, Cicek, Poirier
On paper, the Flames’ defensive group looks pretty similar to how it looked a year ago. But if Zayne Parekh can force his way onto the NHL roster – and we suspect he’ll be given every chance to do so given there’s nothing left for him to accomplish in the OHL – suddenly the blueline group looks much more interesting.

Centres

[5 under contract; 2 RFAs]
Name [Shot]
Age
Contract Details
Nazem Kadri [L]
34
$7 million (one-way/no-move)
Mikael Backlund [L]
36
$4.5 million (one-way/no-move)
Justin Kirkland [L]
28
$900,000 (one-way)
Carter King [L]
23
$872,500 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Clark Bishop [L]
29
$775,000 (two-way)
In the system: Cole Reschny (NCAA), Cullen Porter (NCAA), Luke Misa (NCAA), Theo Stockselius (Sweden), Hunter Laing (WHL), Cade Littler (NCAA), Jaden Lipinski (NCAA), Yan Matveiko (Russia)
RFAs: Morgan Frost (RFA), Sam Morton (RFA)
We have good news: the Flames have more centres on their way, as they drafted four more over the weekend. But they’ll take awhile, so the Flames will return with seven of the centres the organization ended the season with.
On paper, it feels like Kadri, Backlund, Frost and Kirkland will be in the NHL, while Morton, King and Bishop will be on the farm. But don’t rule out Morton making a push for an NHL look considering how well he played last season with the Wranglers, especially in the back half.

Wingers

[17 under contract; 2 RFAs]
Name [Shot]
Age
Contract Details
Jonathan Huberdeau [L]
32
$10.5 million (one-way/no-move)
Matt Coronato [R]
22
$6.5 million (one-way)
Yegor Sharangovich [L]
27
$5.75 million (one-way)
Joel Farabee [L]
25
$5 million (one-way)
Blake Coleman [L]
33
$4.9 million (one-way/no-trade)
Ryan Lomberg [L]
30
$2 million (one-way)
Adam Klapka [R]
24
$1.25 million (one-way)
Martin Pospisil [L]
25
$1 million (one-way)
Matvei Gridin [L]
19
$942,500 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Jacob Battaglia [L]
19
$931,667 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Aydar Suniev [L]
20
$923,333 (two-way, waiver exempt)
William Strömgren [L]
21
$900,833 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Sam Honzek [L]
20
$886,666 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Andrew Basha [L]
19
$865,000 (two-way, waiver exempt)
Parker Bell [L]
21
$857,500 (two-way/waiver exempt)
Lucas Ciona [L]
22
$830,000 (two-way/waiver exempt)
Dryden Hunt [L]
29
$825,000 (two-way)
In the system: Trevor Hoskin (NCAA), Ethan Wyttenbach (USHL), Aiden Lane (NCAA), Demetrios Koumontzis (ECHL; rights expiring)
RFAs: Connor Zary (RFA), Rory Kerins (RFA)
Once Zary and Kerins get new deals, the Flames have 19 wingers on active deals – though Battaglia will be headed back to junior, so they’ll have 18 wingers actively playing pro hockey. Just two of them are righties, Coronato and Klapka.
The NHL group seems close to set: Huberdeau, Coronato, Sharangovich, Farabee, Coleman, Lomberg, Klapka, Pospisil and Zary. Everybody else probably ends up with the Wranglers. Aside from Hunt and Kerins, there’s a ton of waiver exempt wingers likely bound for the Wranglers, so if some of the youngsters impress it would be pretty easy to give out some NHL auditions if need be. (Based on the past 12 months, we’d keep an eye on Hunt, Kerins and Gridin making a push in camp.)
