The Calgary Flames franchise has a long, fascinating history. From their origins as an expansion team in Georgia in 1972 to their glory days in the 1980s to present day, the Flames have played a lot of hockey and many players have had tremendous careers wearing the Flaming C (and the Flaming A).
As we prepare for the 2023-24 season, we thought we’d look back at the Flames’ history decade-by-decade. Finally, let’s take a quick gander at the roarin’ 2020s, which are obviously still in progress.

The 2020s, at a glance

The Flames have gone 130-85-33 and earned 293 points over 248 games played during the 2020s. Their points percentage over the decade, so far, is 13th overall in the NHL. Their 2021-22 season was among the best regular seasons in franchise history.
The Flames have made the playoffs twice so far in the 2020s. They won a round in 2022, beating Dallas in seven games courtesy a dramatic overtime winner in Game 7 by Johnny Gaudreau.
