Calgary Flames forward @Milan Lucic was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for boarding Winnipeg Jets defenceman @Dylan DeMelo late in the second period of Saturday’s game.
With less than five minutes remaining in the middle 20, Lucic skated hard into the corner in the Jets’ defensive zone and threw all of his weight behind DeMelo.
DeMelo flew almost completely horizontally into the boards and came up bleeding. The 28-year-old defenceman went directly down the tunnel to the Jets’ dressing room.
Here’s the video of the hit, as posted to Twitter by Hailey Salvian of The Athletic:
Winnipeg failed to score on the ensuing 5:00 power play, with the final 1:05 of the 5-on-4 advantage negated by a @Neal Pionk holding penalty at the 19:27 mark of the period.
The Flames and Jets are currently tied 2–2 after 40 minutes of play.
