Folks, most of the off-season roster shuffling has been completed for National Hockey League clubs. As the dust has settled, thoughts have begun to drift towards the upcoming season – both on the ice and in terms of fantasy hockey.
Over at Daily Faceoff, our pal Matt Larkin has compiled his first instalment of his top 300 fantasy hockey rankings. In his rundown of the most promising 300 players, there are nine Calgary Flames represented, led by Nazem Kadri at 92nd.

On Kadri, Larkin noted he was impressed with his play down the stretch: “The most surprising thing about Kadri last season: he played better as the Flames traded away veteran after veteran.”
Further down the list, the top Flames blueliner from a fantasy perspective isn’t a big surprise, as MacKenzie Weegar logs in at 121st – even after scoring 20 goals in 2023-24. “The twenty goals stick out like few stats of any player last season. His previous best was eight. But even with a return to his normal scoring rate, he’s an extremely well-rounded fantasy contributor.”
With a lengthy contract extension in his back pocket, Yegor Sharangovich slots in at 131st: “He should remain a power-play fixture, and his shooting talent is for real, so I like him for 30 goals again, albeit with another ugly plus-minus on a rebuilding team.”
At 173rd is pending unrestricted free agent (and power play dynamo) Andrei Kuzmenko. He was very un-good in Vancouver, but found a groove with the Flames down the stretch: “He’s as volatile as it gets, but we have seen more good Kuzmenko than bad in the NHL.”
Who’s gonna be the Flames’ starting goalie in 2024-25? It may well be rookie Dustin Wolf, who lands at 192nd on Larkin’s list. He very well might play a ton… but will his numbers be strong? “The opportunity is undeniable for one of the game’s best netminding prospects. I don’t know if this is the big breakout year for him, however, given the Flames are in rebuild mode and he struggled in his first season.”
Jonathan Huberdeau appears just behind Wolf at 196th, with Larkin’s assessment noting that Huberdeau’s supporting cast has been diminished and, given what we’ve seen from the past couple seasons, “I have to treat him as a 50-point guy until he wins back our trust.”
Three more Flames appear in the 200s: Rasmus Andersson (206th), Blake Coleman (234th) and Connor Zary (237th). Larkin sounds optimistic about Zary’s potential: “Not only did he impress with 34 points in 63 games as a rookie, but he was a positive play driver who should continue to earn his coaches’ trust. He should play a lot more than 15 minutes a game this time, and his point total should jump accordingly.”
Head on over to Daily Faceoff and check out Larkin’s entire, gigantic list. (And try not to pay too much attention to how many Edmonton Oilers are in the top 100.)
