For their fourth pre-season contest of their 2019 calendar, the Calgary Flames are spending their Friday evening traveling to the wretched hive of scum and villainy known as Rogers Place to face off with the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers were tuned up by the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday evening and the Flames are hoping to build upon that thrilling Oilers performance.

The puck drops at 7 p.m. MT and you can catch the action over the airwaves on Sportsnet 960 The Fan or streamed via the Flames social media platforms.

The Flames have won two of three pre-season outings, and have looked pretty good in all three contests (aside from a slump in the third period at home against Vancouver). They’re dressing a fairly tweener heavy roster, with the likes of Dillon Dube, Alan Quine, Devante Smith-Pelly, Glenn Gawdin and Zac Rinaldo vying for spots up front and Oliver Kylington, Michael Stone, Brandon Davidson and Alexander Yelesin on the back end. (All due respect to Ryan Lomberg, but he’s probably not in the mix given the number of bodies in camp.)

David Rittich starts and he’ll play at least half of the game for Calgary.

The Flames released Eric Gryba from his try-out on Thursday, but expect more cuts following this game.

After a pretty rough outing against Vancouver, Mikko Koskinen is expected to start as he tries to knock the rust off. Expect an NHL-heavy roster for the Oilers, who dressed some tweeners against the Canucks and looked, in a word, bad.

The Oilers cut down their roster significantly today, bringing their camp group down to 33 players.

Andrew Mangiapane is playing for the first time this pre-season, on a line with AHL buddy Mark Jankowski and first line winger Elias Lindholm. The interesting thing here to watch will be who’s the odd man out on this trio. And after facing four whole shots in 30+ minutes of work against Vancouver, can David Rittich continue his shutout streak in a game where he’ll probably face more than that?
