The Calgary Wranglers have been busy on the road but the light at the end of the tunnel is here. They played their last game of their 10 game road trip on Sunday and despite some sickness going through the team, some bumps and bruises and likely some fatigue, the Wranglers ended up earning a point.
They weren’t able to get past the Ontario Reign but went to overtime and fell 2-1.
Lineup notes
Prior to this game, it was announced that Etienne Morin was reassigned to the Wranglers after a five game stretch with the Rapid City Rush. He was not in the lineup for this game, however. Missing from the blue line was Hunter Brzustewicz. Brzustewicz played on Saturday and with a flu bug going around the team, it’s possible he was the latest player to get hit with it.
Carter King was also out with an illness and was able to return for this game. Parker Bell was still out of the lineup for this game after also being out on Saturday for the same reason. Carter Wilkie and Simon Mack came in for this game in addition to King and Lucas Ciona and Andrew Basha came out.

Game at a glance
The Wranglers started Connor Murphy, who came in relief for Owen Say in the third period on Saturday. The Reign switched things up in net with Isaiah Saville getting the start in net. It was a pretty slow start to the game with not a whole lot going on in the first period. The Wranglers took a pair of boarding calls but managed to kill them off.
At the end of the first period, there was no score between these two and shots were 9-3 Ontario. The Wranglers got a bit of a burst early in the second and managed to take the lead. Aydar Suniev opened the scoring in this game at 5:04, when Daniil Miromanov found him with a drop pass and Suniev shot through traffic from the point to make it a 1-0 game for the Wranglers. Sam Morton also assisted on this marker.
The Reign got some momentum going right after this goal to try and even the game up once again. They were successful in that endeavour a few minutes later when Andre Lee made it a 1-1 game at 8:52. He received a pass from behind the net and was right on the doorstep to shoot it past Murphy.
The Reign took a slashing call at 14:53 and this power play was cut slightly short for Calgary when Martin Frk took an interference call at 16:28. After both players were out of the box, Taylor Ward went to the box for high-sticking on Sam Morton and this Wranglers power play would carry into the third period.
At the end of 40 minutes, the Wranglers and Reign were tied 1-1. Shots in the middle frame were 9-6 Ontario. Calgary started the third period with 35 seconds remaining on the power play but couldn’t find that go-ahead goal.
The third period as a whole was pretty even and clean. Minimal whistles and no penalties. Regulation finished up and there was no decision on this game yet, with a 1-1 score between Calgary and Ontario. Shots in the third were 7-6 Wranglers.
Overtime was all Ontario as Calgary couldn’t get much set up. On the third shot of the extra frame, Joe Hicketts scored the game winner. It came exactly three minutes into overtime and the Wranglers loss 2-1. They still picked up a point but were nearly doubled up in shots 27-16 overall.
Scoring stat summary
Aydar Suniev – 1G
Daniil Miromanov – 1A
Sam Morton – 1A
