Notes and expectations
Calgary went with Ivan Prosvetov for both starts last week and with it being a back to back series, Owen Say is due for a start. He did a great job coming in for Prosvetov in the first San Jose game, and didn’t let anything past him. He was a big reason why this team almost made a full comeback and finished within one of the Barracuda. I’d imagine he starts the first game of this series, but the rotation does have Ivan Prosvetov being favoured as the starter, so that may be a factor into deciding that first game netminder.
The scoring slowed a bit for Calgary in the last two games as the Barracuda really didn’t give them the time and space to set things up. Regular scorers like Rory Kerins, Matvei Gridin and Sam Morton were kept quiet but still contributed with assists or chances as the games went on. Even the players agreed that team threw them off their game and structure and those are both things they want to focus on going into this next series.
Hunter Brzustewicz spoke about this after practice on Monday saying:
”I think all teams play different so I think it’s all different scenarios, but San Jose and our previous Bakersfield, they are two run and gun teams that forechecked with two really hard forecheckers. I think we need to do a better job playing against that. We’ll see what we get versus Ontario tomorrow, but I think it’s just all different opponents. We just got to be ready for whoever and whatever they play.”
Ontario has had a similar record to the Wranglers in their last five games and comes into this series off a 4-3 win against the San Diego Gulls. Most of their major categories for special teams, and goals for and against look very close when you compare the teams apples to apples. With Ontario at 41 goals for and 36 goals against and Calgary with 38 goals for and 37 goals against. It could be another couple of close games for the Flames affiliate.
This series starts on Tuesday for a Remembrance Day game and continues for a back to back on Wednesday. Tuesday’s game starts at 6 p.m. MT and Wednesday’s goes an hour later at 7 p.m. MT. Tickets are available for both games or you can stream them on Flo Hockey. Multiple FlamesNation contributors will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
