Some key Flames prospects are distinguishing themselves this season

Friends, we’re entering mid-December. By this point in the calendar, most major hockey leagues are somewhere between a quarter and a third of the way through their playing schedules.
As such, we’re beyond the point where we can say “it’s too early” to make assessments of how players’ seasons are unfolding. We’re not going to declare anyone’s career over or anything like that, but we can suss out which players are doing well and which need to have a boost in the next chunk of games to stay on track.
So far, quite a few Flames prospects are playing very well.
2024 first-rounder Matvei Gridin? He’s one of the most offensively productive rookies in the AHL after starting the season in the NHL. At age 19.
2025 first-rounder Cole Reschny? He’s adapted to the NCAA really nicely and become one of the most relied-upon players for a strong North Dakota team.
2025 first-rounder Cullen Potter? He’s continued a run of strong play in college in his sophomore season.
2025 fifth-rounder Ethan Wyttenbach? He’s one of the NCAA’s top scorers. As an 18-year-old freshman.
Yeah, some players are taking some time to adapt to new levels of hockey. Progress and growth isn’t always linear, and there are often bumps on the road to hockey success. But there are quite a few promising success stories to brighten what’s been, at times, a bit of a challenging season for the Flames organization.
Onto the updates!
