This week in 2011 (Aug. 29), the Calgary Flames traded longtime forward Daymond Langkow to the Phoenix Coyotes. In return, the Flames received Lee Stempniak.

Calgary originally acquired Langkow in 2004 and he became a fan favourite for the Flames. In 392 games, Langkow scored 123 goals and 288 points as a dynamic centre alongside Jarome Iginla.

He showed up when games mattered and the playoffs were no different. In 26 games, Langkow scored six goals and 18 points.

His best season came in 2006-07 when he scored 33 goals and 77 points in 81 games. That year he was the Flames nominee for the ill Masterton Memorial Trophy and placed ninth in Selke voting.

Meanwhile, Stempniak’s time in Calgary only lasted parts of three seasons, but he sure made the most of them. He scored 31 goals and 83 points in 160 games with the Flames helping fill a solid secondary scoring role.

He left the Flames in a 2014 trade in exchange for a 3rd round pick.
