The Calgary Flames have 26 players on contracts that expire as of Wednesday morning, which means they have 26 pending free agents of various types. Eight are restricted free agents, while 18 are unrestricted free agents.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the free agents and what type they are.

Group 2 (unrestricted, received no qualifying offer)

Two players qualified to be Group 2 restricted free agents, but didn’t receive qualifying offers:
  • Johannes Kinnvall
  • Tyler Parsons
Kinnvall has already signed in Sweden with Brynas IF of the SHL, while it’s unclear if Parsons will resume his playing career.

Group 3 (unrestricted)

A dozen players are 27 years of age (or older) and have met the years of service requirements to be completely unrestricted free agents.

Group 6 (unrestricted)

These four players would’ve been restricted free agents, but they played few enough NHL games to fall into Group 6 free agency instead.
  • Glenn Gawdin
  • Justin Kirkland
  • Luke Philp
  • Adam Werner
Werner has already signed in Sweden with the Malmo Redhawks of the SHL.

Group 2 (restricted, received qualifying offer)

Finally, eight players (a) qualified to be Group 2 restricted free agents and were qualified by the Flames.

  • Andrew Mangiapane
  • Matthew Phillips
  • Colton Poolman
  • Martin Pospisil
  • Adam Ruzicka
  • Matthew Tkachuk
  • Eetu Tuulola
Tuulola has already signed in Finland with Ilves of the Liiga. But the Flames retain his NHL rights by qualifying him.
