Mikael Backlund ties it up after a great display of hand-eye by Tkachuk. Later called back after the NHL determined Tkachuk had played the puck with a high stick. #Flames

For just a couple of minutes, the Calgary Flames thought they had tied Wednesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Trailing the Jets 3-2 in the final minute, the Flames pulled goaltender Dan Vladar and went with six skaters for a face-off in the offensive zone.
Even though Flames centre Mikael Backlund lost the draw, Calgary was able to regain the puck after Matthew Tkachuk knocked the Jets’ clearing attempt out of mid-air.
After a few more touches by Milan Lucic, Elias Lindholm, and Tkachuk, the puck found its way back to Backlund at the right circle. The Swedish centre made no mistake, hammering the puck past a swimming Connor Hellebuyck to tie the game at 3-3.
Here’s the video of the sequence:
Unfortunately for the Flames, the goal was not to be. In accordance with NHL rule 38.3, the league initiated a challenge on the basis that an opportunity for a game stoppage had been missed prior to the goal.
The NHL took issue with Tkachuk knocking the puck out the air. It was determined upon review that Tkachuk had played the puck with a high stick, rendering Backlund’s game-tying goal null and void.
My bad, it's the last minute of the third period where everything gets scrutinized.
From what I remember, all goals scored in the final two minutes of regulation get automatically reviewed for anything weird.
The Flames ultimately fell to the Jets by a 3-2 score on Wednesday. They’ll wrap up their pre-season schedule with a rematch against the Jets in Calgary on Oct. 8.
