The Calgary Wranglers have one more stop in California this week before they return home for the weekend to host the Abbotsford Canucks. Calgary is still searching for a win in February and remain on a current seven game losing streak. They’ve done well against the Gulls going 5-0-1-0 in their season series so maybe this will be the game that puts them back in the win column.

Notes and expectations
Usually playing the Gulls brings a mini-reunion between players that were on last year’s squad and former Wranglers netminder, Oscar Dansk. This time around, Dansk is not expected to be available for this game as he was called up by the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. Dansk only has six career NHL games with his last one being all the way back in 2021. It’s nice to see another former Wrangler get his shot at that level again and should be an interesting story if he ends up getting some game time in.
The Gulls acquired another netminder, Ville Husso for backup and on the Wranglers end, it might be an interesting choice for this game. Waltteri Ignatjew had a good outing for Calgary on Sunday and held the Ontario Reign to one goal until the shootout. His last win also happened to be against the San Diego Gulls on Jan. 25. Calgary plays another back to back this weekend so he is likely to get into at least one of the next three but this could be a back to back start for the Finnish netminder.
The Wranglers and Gulls have looked almost the opposite in their last stretch of games and not in a positive way for Calgary. The Gulls are 7-2-1-0 in their last 10 games and most recently beat the Bakersfield Condors 5-2 on Feb. 22. Even with this stretch, the Gulls sit ninth in the Pacific Division and the Wranglers sit second. Recent play may be a better indication of how this game may go versus the standings, however.
This will just be a one game meeting between these teams. They play on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. MT. Streaming is available on AHLtv on Flo Hockey for a fee and multiple FlamesNation contributors will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
