They dropped the last two over the weekend against the Bakersfield Condors and San Diego Gulls and have one more chance at points in this stretch against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Notes and expectations

The Bakersfield game kept the Wranglers completely off the scoresheet but their scoring activated again for their 5-4 decision on Sunday. Carter King started the scoring and others like Clark Bishop, Daniil Miromanov and Dryden Hunt have been finding some consistency as of late. Bishop is up to four goals and an assist in his last six games and Hunt has only been off the scoresheet twice in the last 11 games. He has 12 points in the last 11 games and exceeded his career point totals in Calgary’s last game. He’s at 51 points on the season which exceeds his previous record from last season at 49. That’s including split time with the Flames. For Miromanov, he’s been on the scoresheet on seven of the last nine games with eight points through that stretch.
The Wranglers could benefit from that “play for each other” mentality the Flames are rolling with as of late. There is no denying this has been a challenging season and if playoffs are pretty much out of the picture, the team needs to motivate each other in other ways. They find ways back into some of the games but others escalate quicker than they can keep up with. Some of these skaters might also be playing for another look with the Flames by the end of the season. Even an end of the year NHL look is still NHL time, nonetheless.
Calgary and Coachella Valley just saw each other earlier this month with a two game set in Palm Desert on March 7 and 8. Both of these games ended in four goal games for the Firebirds and they took the sweep on the weekend. Logan Morrison scored in both games, but has not scored since these games. He’ll be hungry for more in this series and as the Firebirds’ top scorer, the Wranglers will be keeping a lookout for him in this game.
