It’s an exciting time in the hockey world, folks. Even amidst a pandemic, leagues are chugging away and trying to get games in – subject to the necessary health and safety measures, thankfully.
In the prospect realm, a few Calgary Flames properties joined new teams this week.
In case you missed it:
- Last week’s update
- Dustin Wolf won a gold medal at the World Juniors!
- Jakob Pelletier and Connor Zary captured silver medals at the World Juniors!
Jake Boltmann- D, Lincoln Stars, USHL / University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA

After spending the fall with his USHL team, and getting no points, Boltmann began his collegiate career this weekend with Notre Dame. He also got no points, but he also didn’t get lit up defensively, so that’s a nice first step. He’s starting on Notre Dame’s second defensive pairing.
Lucas Feuk- LW, AIK, Allsvenskan/J20 Nationell / Kalix HC, HockeyEttan
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

With Sweden’s junior league, the J20 Nationell, done for the year, AIK finally had some clarity about Feuk’s status going forward. At Feuk’s request, the club loaned him to Kalix HC of the Swedish third league, HockeyEttan. Feuk was barely getting any playing time when he dressed for AIK, so the request makes a lot of sense.
Ryan Francis- C, Cape Breton Eagles, QMJHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 15 | 6 | 15 | 21 | 10 | 15 | 8 | 32.60 |

The QMJHL is paused until Jan. 22 due to COVID concerns.
Johannes Kinnvall- D, HV71, SHL

Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -3.66 |
Kinnvall played twice for HV71 and failed to register on the scoresheet. He’s still one of the top offensive blueliners in the SHL, albeit a tad reliant on the power play for his scoring.
Demetrios Koumontzis- LW, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 12 | 3 | 5 | 8 | 6 | 7 | 6 | 18.20 |

Koumontzis is away from his team this week for undisclosed reasons. He’s expected to return before the end of the month.
Yan Kuznetsov- D, University of Connecticut Huskies, NCAA / Team Russia, WJC
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 16.11 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | n/a |
Kuznetsov went back to school, but UConn’s games were canceled due to a COVID-19 positive on the Huskies. He finished fourth at the World Juniors for Russia and received no medal.
Mitchell Mattson- C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

A fourth line centre with the Spartans, Mattson went pointless this week.

MHL up to date | 16 | 6 | 8 | 14 | 13 | 13 | 10 | 18.66 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | n/a |
Nikolayev remains a middle six forward for Buran, getting good amounts of ice time. His offensive contributions remain sporadic, though.
Josh Nodler- C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 12 | 1 | 7 | 8 | 7 | 7 | 6 | 18.20 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | +1.81 |
It was a wild weekend for the Spartans against their old rivals at Michigan. They were lit up 9-0 in a loss, then came back the next game and won in dramatic fashion. Nodler had the game-winning goal to match his point output from his freshman year.
Jakob Pelletier- LW, Val-d’Or Foreurs, QMJHL / Team Canada, WJC
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 9 | 3 | 10 | 13 | 6 | 11 | 6 | 33.64 |

Pelletier is headed back to Quebec to quarantine and prepare for the return of the QMJHL (in a bubble) on Jan. 22.
Jeremie Poirier- D, Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 15 | 5 | 11 | 16 | 11 | 12 | 8 | 24.84 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | n/a |
The QMJHL is paused until Jan. 22 due to COVID concerns.
Martin Pospisil- RW, HC Kosice, Tipsport Liga
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 22 | 9 | 8 | 17 | 9 | 13 | 8 | n/a |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 1 | n/a |
Pospisil finished his final week with HC Kosice with a point-per-game week, all of them assists. He departs from the league second in penalty minutes in the entire league with 102. As Brad Treliving quipped to Sportsnet’s Eric Francis a few weeks back: he could find trouble in church.
Pospisil’s been re-assigned to Stockton and will arrive there next week.
Ilya Solovyov- D, Dynamo Minsk, KHL / Dinamo Molodechno, Belarus
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
KHL up to date | 32 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 5 | 3 | 3 | 12.33 |

Solovyov has been playing 15-18 minutes per night on Dynamo Minsk’s third pairing. He finally scored his first KHL goal last week.

Filip Sveningsson- LW, MODO Hockey, Allsvenskan
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 25 | 2 | 5 | 7 | 7 | 4 | 4 | 9.12 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | +0.98 |
Sveningsson had an assist in MODO’s only game this past week, which was a shootout win.
Connor Zary- C, Kamloops Blazers, WHL / Team Canada, WJC
Zary is remaining with the Flames’ AHL group through Jan. 20, at which point he’ll likely head with the group to Stockton. The WHL’s start date is a moving target at this point.
Daniil Chechelev- G, Russkie Vityazi Chekhov, MHL / HC Ryazan, VHL / HC Vityaz Podolsk, KHL
GP | TOI | SV% | |
MHL up to date | 14 | 808 | 0.932 |
Change from last week | – | – | n/a |
VHL up to date | 15 | 755 | 0.912 |
Change from last week | 1 | 60 | -0.003 |
Chechelev allowed three goals, two of them at even strength, in a 3-0 loss this week. His pro numbers are coming down to Earth a bit, but that may be a product of him playing infrequently lately.
Dustin Wolf- G, Everett Silvertips, WHL / Team USA, WJC
Wolf is remaining with the Flames’ AHL group through Jan. 20, at which point he’ll likely head with the group to Stockton. The WHL’s start date is a moving target at this point.
That’s a good look. 🐺
