The Calgary Flames have signed right-handed winger Brett Ritchie to a one-year, one-way contract worth $900,000.
Ritchie, 28, scored four goals and eight points in 32 games with the Flames in 2020–21. He averaged 11:22 per game and registered 97 hits.
According to Evolving-Hockey, Ritchie contributed -3.8 goals above replacement in 2020–21. He provided -$3.6 million of value against a $700,000 contract.
Ritchie’s signing enables the Flames to meet the forward exposure requirements for the Seattle Kraken expansion draft. Each participating team is required to expose at least two signed forwards with at least 27 games of NHL experience in 2020–21 or 54 games in the last two seasons; prior to the Ritchie signing, Milan Lucic was the only Flames’ forward projected to be exposed who met these criteria.
The Seattle expansion draft will take place on July 21.
