On Tuesday’s episode of Barn Burner, Boomer, Pinder, and Rhett took a deep dive into the 2018 NHL Draft class; One in which produced the likes of Rasmus Dahlin (1st overall), Brady Tkachuk (4th overall) and Quinn Hughes (7th overall).
Also drafted in the same draft class was Flames forward Yegor Sharangovich. However, unlike the players mentioned above, you have to scroll down the list quite a bit to find his name on the draft sheet. Sharangovich was selected 141st overall in the 5th round of the draft by his former team, the New Jersey Devils.
During the segment, Boomer would go on to share a wild bit of information on the fifth round selection, citing that “There are [eight] players only from that draft who have more points at this point in their career than Yegor Sharangovich.”
Through Sharangovich’s 263-game career, he currently has 73 goals and 71 helpers for a total of 144 points. Here’s how he stacks up against the other draftees from the same year:
PlayerPoints
Brady Tkachuk325
Quinn Hughes311
Andrei Svechnikov298
Rasmus Dahlin276
Noah Dobson181
Joel Farabee175
Jesperi Kotkaniemi154
Evan Bouchard145
Yegor Sharangovich144
It was an interesting draft for the Calgary Flames as they didn’t have a pick until the fourth round after trading their first and second to the New York Islanders and swapping their third in a trade that saw Mike Smith make his way from Arizona. Pinder would point out in the segment that with those trades, the Flames could’ve had another player on the list above as the Islanders drafted Noah Dobson in the first round with Calgary’s selection.
Another notable selection from that 2018 draft class came at pick 105 when they selected Martin Pospisil from the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers. Pospisil has been a force this year as the fellas continue to love what they are seeing from the 24 year old:
Sharangovich will get a chance to continue to work his way up the list on Tuesday evening when the Flames welcome the Los Angeles Kings to the Scotiabank Saddledome for a Pacific Division clash.
