We’re very deep into the hockey season, with the Calgary Flames and Stockton Heat heading into the final stretch of their respective seasons. Across the rest of the hockey world, the playoffs are just over the horizon. Heck, the college teams are already in their playoff tournaments!
Let’s check in on how all the Flames’ youngsters fared this week.

This and that

  • G Tyler Parsons remains on the Flames’ season-opening injury reserve.
  • He’s not technically a prospect anymore, but D Juuso Valimaki has 10 points in 18 AHL games for Stockton.
  • F Adam Ruzicka has gotten a full-time residence in Calgary, so it seems likely that he won’t be returning to Stockton anytime soon.
  • The Flames acquired G Michael McNiven from Montreal last week. We’ll list him here as soon as he dresses for Stockton. (He doesn’t even need to play.)

Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (168th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2216132916261634.91
Change from last week2011010-2.17
Beck had a quiet offensive week by his lofty standards, registering just a power play assist for the 67’s.

Jake Boltmann – D, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s third round pick (80th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date361121311869.59
Change from last week2000000-0.85
Notre Dame advanced to the Big 10 conference semi-final round, where they will face Matty Beniers and Michigan. Gulp. (If they get eliminated, they still have a strong chance for an at-large bit to NCAA tournament due to their high placement in the pairwise rankings.)

Lucas Ciona – LW, Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date4817153220241416.51
Change from last week3202111n/a
Seattle’s playing well as a team, but Ciona has become a contributor of key goals lately. He scored twice this week, including a dramatic late game-winner that helped swing a likely regulation loss into a regulation win.

Matthew Coronato – RW, Harvard University Crimson, NCAA/HE

Calgary’s first round pick (13th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #1-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2813122517211520.50
Change from last week
Harvard was off this week, as they had a bye through the first round of the conference playoff tournament. But Coronato was named the ECAC conference’s rookie of the month for February and was named to the conference’s all-rookie team for the season.

Walker Duehr – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Lucas Feuk – LW, Västerviks IK, HockeyAllsvenskan / Nybro Vikings IF/Väsby IK, HockeyEttan

Calgary’s fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Allsvenskan up to date101122116.51
Change from last week
HockeyEttan up to date30101424181714n/a
Change from last week3033232
Feuk had three assists this week, with two of them in one of his three games. He’s a secondary offensive contributor on a third-division Swedish team.

Ryan Francis – C, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Calgary’s fifth round pick (143rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #8-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
AHL up to date40000000.00
Change from last week
QMJHL up to date309243320271725.62
Change from last week3224343+0.61
Francis continues to chug along as a consistent offensive contributor in the Q. He had two multi-point games this week (and a third game where he didn’t get any points). On a per-game basis, he’s one of the Sea Dogs’ top offensive players.

Glenn Gawdin – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

St. Louis’ fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft; free agent signing; #10-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date4212284022251637.95
Change from last week2000000-1.90
Gawdin didn’t register a point this week.

Cole Huckins – LW, Acadie-Bathurst Titan, QMJHL

Calgary’s third round pick (77th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #19-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2812132517211320.79
Change from last week
Huckins hasn’t played for the Titan since mid-February and there’s yet to be any official announcement about his status.

Cole Jordan – D, Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL

Calgary’s fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date231454335.38
Change from last week1000000-0.25
Jordan missed one of Moose Jaw’s games for an unspecified reason, presumably a minor injury or illness. Our pal Joel Henderson provided some nice context for Jordan’s season to date: he’s on a stacked team (with Memorial Cup hopes and dreams) and so he’s being used somewhat sparingly coming off his prior injuries.

Rory Kerins – C, Soo Greyhounds, OHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #18-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date5233558849684444.82
Change from last week2044222+0.32
This feels repetitive but here we go: Kerins is really good at the OHL level. He had two multi-point games and is one of the best offensive players in the entire circuit.

Johannes Kinnvall – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date906632126.57
Change from last week1000000-3.32
Kinnvall played once and was scratched once. He’s still finding his consistency at the AHL level, it seems.

Justin Kirkland – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Nashville’s third round pick (62nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date4314132715201025.02
Change from last week2011100-0.25
Kirkland continued his fairly consistent offensive output recently with an assist this week.

Demetrios Koumontzis – LW, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA/Ind.

Calgary’s fourth round pick (108th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date23471198813.06
Change from last week
Arizona State was off this week. They finish off their season this weekend against Long Island University. It sounds like Koumontzis is still injured, so he may have already played his final NCAA game.

Yan Kuznetsov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Calgary’s second round pick (50th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #15-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date231122222.37
Change from last week1000000-0.23
Mattson’s NCAA career was completed this past week as Michigan State were swept by Michigan in the Big 10’s opening tournament round.

Ilya Nikolaev – C, Tri-City Storm, USHL

Calgary’s third round pick (88th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date4113334623281325.76
Change from last week3033210-0.22
Nikolaev maintained his scoring pace this week.

Josh Nodler – C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s fifth round pick (150th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

Michigan State were eliminated from the Big 10 tournament by Michigan and their season is done.

Jakob Pelletier – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s first round pick (26th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft; #3-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date3859141310914.68
Change from last week2112222+1.40
Pettersen had a goal in one game and an assist in the other game. He’s had a quiet offensive year, playing a defensive role in the bottom six, but he’s been heating up lately (if you’ll forgive the pun).

Matthew Phillips – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; #5-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date4220284827372245.55
Change from last week2011010-1.28
Phillips had just one point this week, but it was setting up Juuso Valimaki’s overtime game-winning goal. If you’re going to have one point, that’s not a bad spot to choose.

Luke Philp – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date4317133016221427.80
Change from last week2112111+0.58
Philp had two points in one game this week. As usual, he’s a steady contributor for Stockton.

Jérémie Poirier – D, Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Calgary’s third round pick (72nd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #9-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date4411324332251822.76
Change from last week3033221+0.04
Poirier had three points this week and surpassed Thomas Chabot for the Sea Dogs’ franchise record for career points by a defender. Poirier remains one of the QMJHL’s most consistent offensive producers from the blueline. He’s consistent producing at roughly a point-per-game pace.

Colton Poolman – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date390776227.15

Pospisil missed Stockton’s games this weekend with an injury.

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date3541317911611.31
Change from last week3112222+0.39
