Calgary Wranglers, the Flames’ AHL affiliate, unveil inaugural uniforms

The Calgary Wranglers’ first-ever American Hockey League uniforms are here.

With a flaming “W” plastered on the chest and retro-inspired striping up the arms from the shoulders, the Wranglers’ new uniforms are sure to turn heads around the AHL this season.

Earlier this year, the Calgary Flames announced they begin sharing the Scotiabank Saddledome with their AHL affiliate for the 2022–23 season. The AHL franchise previously operated out of Stockton, California as the Stockton Heat from 2015 to 2022 (and, before that, existed as the Adirondack Flames, Abbotsford Heat, Quad City Flames, Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, and the Saint John Flames).

The Wranglers unveiled their name and primary logo in August, and now the jerseys are finally here — although they likely won’t be available in stores for a few weeks due to issues with the jersey supply chain. As with all AHL jerseys, the Wranglers’ new threads are manufactured by CCM.

AHL rules stipulate that clubs wear their white uniforms at home to begin the season before switching to their darks roughly halfway through the schedule. The Wranglers will wear white when they host the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Oct. 16 and will likely switch to donning the reds at home in February.

The Wranglers’ uniforms feature a modified “Blasty” logo on one shoulder and the flaming “C” logo of their NHL affiliate on the other. The letters and numbers on the jerseys are borrowed directly from the Flames’ kit, while the overall jersey template closely resembles the WHL Wranglers throwback the Calgary Hitmen wore during the 2018–19 Corral Series.

The Stockton Heat reached the fourth round of the Calder Cup Playoffs last season, ultimately falling to the eventual champions, the Chicago Wolves, in six games. The Flames’ AHL franchise has won the Calder Cup once, with the Saint John Flames prevailing over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins way back in the 2001 final.
