The Calgary Flames had dug themselves a 3-0 hole by the end of the first period of Game 4 against the Edmonton Oilers. They managed to claw their way back and make it a hockey game, tying things up midway through the third period. But the Flames couldn’t quite hold on, and ended up losing a 5-3 contest to the Oilers. They now trail the best-of-seven series 3-1 headed back to Calgary for Thursday’s Game 5.
The recap is here, if you missed it. Here are selected highlights and post-game comments from Tuesday night.

The quotes

Head coach Darryl Sutter
On how the game unfolded: “I thought we showed a lot of resolve or resilience. They score into that empty net the first minute of the game and, quite honest with you, I thought we had a good first period. That’s what I told them after the first, it’s a winnable for us, for sure tonight. And we damn near did.”
On Chris Tanev’s return to the lineup: “You know what, he’s wanted to play the last two games and I was just at the point where it was basically up to him and the medical staff and then that was it.”
On the two weird goals (the first Oilers goal and the third Flames goal): “They got one, we got one, so it’s 2-2. That’s the way the game is. It was funny, when the shot was taken I said y’know i think that puck could go in the net. And it did.”
On the way the Flames played: “We hung around tonight. We’re not going to go away easy. And if they thought they were going to beat us easy, that’s wasn’t the case.”
