Flames assign Dillon Dube, D’Artagnan Joly to the Stockton Heat, recall Oliver Kylington

The Flames and their AHL affliate are having busy mornings. The club has announced that 2016 draft pick Dillon Dube and 2017 draft pick D’Artagnan Joly have been assigned to the Stockton Heat. They’ve also recalled Oliver Kylington from the Heat on an emergency basis, as they are out of regular recalls.

Also of note: as Joly does not have an entry-level contract just yet (you feel it’s coming), he is in Stockton on an ATO. Dube is under contract, so he can be called up to the Flames if need be.

Both players were eliminated from CHL playoff action this week. Dube and the Kelowna Rockets were swept by fellow Flames prospect Juuso Valimaki and the Tri-City Americans, while Joly and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar fell 4-1 to the Halifax Mooseheads. Dube picked up two goals during the postseason, but also two game misconducts. Joly lead his team in points, picking up six primary assists through the five games.

Kylington is coming up as Michael Stone is welcoming a newborn into the world. It’s unclear how long he’ll stick around for, but given that there’s three games left in the season, you’d think the Flames might just give Stone the rest of the year off. The 2015 second round pick was already up on emergency (likely for the same reason, although it was not publicly known at the time) before the victory over the Oilers, and had likely not even left Calgary before this news was made public.

Stockton gets a much needed injection of talent at the right time. The Heat have lost Andrew Mangiapane (shoulder surgery), Rasmus Andersson, Spencer Foo, and (presumably) Oliver Kylington for the rest of the season in short order. The Heat are fighting an uphill battle with six games left in the season and need all the help they can get for a final push. Today’s transactions might’ve provided them with two top six forwards.

Watch for more news on the horizon: Flames prospects Matthew Phillips, Glenn Gawdin, and Zach Fischer could all be eliminated from the WHL playoffs tonight. The only two to have advanced so far are Valimaki and Adam Ruzicka.
