The Preds played their game plan to a tee: try to limit the damage at ES and then take advantage of PP’s/mistakes/bounces etc. Iginla et al were mostly boxed out at ES and NSH ran up the numbers with the man advantage to win the chance count at the end of the night. That said, Kipper was good and the Flames didn’t give up too much either.
Flames possession numbers were huge tonight, but like many of the games thus far this year, a lot of their shots came from non-lethal areas on the ice. The good news is, the Flames are spending a lot of time in the offensive end which is half the battle. Now they have to start doing something useful with that zone time, aside from trying to score from odd angles and the point.
UPDATE – Here’s the head-to-head ice time at ES. As you can see, Bourque and Glencross spent the night against the Preds top line(?) of Wilson, Dumont and Erat and managed to outchance them. Good stuff from the "third line". Jokinen and Hagman faced the Preds other offensive threat (Sullivan, O’Reilly and Hornqvist) and didn’t fare quite as well.
