The Calgary Flames have signed right-handed defenceman Michael Stone to a one-year contract worth $750,000, the club announced Friday afternoon.
This is Stone’s fourth contract with the Flames. The 31-year-old blueliner appeared in 22 games with the team in 2020–21, tallying four points (two goals, two assists) and averaging 16:05 of ice-time.
In 493 games over 10 seasons with the Flames and Arizona/Phoenix Coyotes, Stone has scored 128 points (33 goals, 95 assists) while averaging 18:45.
Stone had a slight renaissance season with Calgary in 2020–21, contributing 4.0 goals above replacement (according to Evolving-Hockey) after falling well into the negatives in each of the previous three campaigns.
Stone has played parts of five seasons in Calgary. After being traded to the team in 2017, he signed a three-year extension with the club but was bought out in 2019 following a lengthy absence due to a blood clot.
He signed another, cheaper deal with the Flames that summer and has since signed two more league-minimum contracts in Calgary.
