The Calgary Flames’ 2021 training camp and rookie camp participants are all fully vaccinated, general manager Brad Treliving revealed during his media availability Wednesday morning.
63 players (35 forwards, 21 defencemen, and seven goaltenders) are slated to participate in the Flames’ training camp, which begins with off-ice assessments on Wednesday.
Treliving also mentioned defenceman Johannes Kinnvall will miss “weeks” with a “significant” lower-body injury.
Forward Connor Zary suffered a lower-body injury in the Flames’ exhibition game against the Oilers on Monday but, according to Treliving, is expected to return to on-ice participation in the coming days.
Defenceman Noah Hanifin and centre Sean Monahan both underwent surgery to correct significant injuries at the end of the 2020–21 season. Treliving said he expects them to be full participants in training camp.
Goaltender Tyler Parsons will not participate in the Flames’ 2021 training camp. Treliving mentioned Parsons was “unable to satisfy quarantine rules” to attend training camp in Canada but declined to comment on Parsons’ vaccination status.
On-ice sessions at the Flames’ training camp will begin Thursday.
