Flames Weekly Prospect Update: the Dube abides

Forwards

• The Stockton Heat have stopped sucking (for now), actually winning two games this week by decisive 5-1 and 4-1 margins. 
• The Kelowna Rockets had themselves a week, scoring 30 goals in four games. Dillon Dube had himself a week, scoring 10 points during that outburst.
• As Ryan pointed out to me, that puts him nearly neck-and-neck with Matt Phillips with regards to points per game. Dube is at 1.29, and Phillips at 1.30 thanks to rounding up the thousandth place. Phillips gets a lot of excitement, but you shouldn’t forget about Dube.
• (Though if I had one criticism, it’s Dube’s consistency. Since the new year, his NHLe has jumped and dipped, hitting a low of 23.37 and a high of 30.05. Phillips, on the other hand, has a low of 26.26 and a high of 28.67 over the same timeframe)
• Tim Harrison and the Colgate Raiders have closed out their regular season, and will head to the ECAC tournament as the 10 seed (out of 12). They face Princeton in the first round, a team they beat and tied during the regular season. Perhaps Colgate will survive another day (until they face Union in the next round).
• Garnet Hathaway returned to the AHL, rejoining the top line with Hunter Shinkaruk and Mark Jankowski. He scored three points on his return, a goal and two assists.
• His linemates didn’t benefit, with only Jankowski scoring one goal this week.
• Phillips has nine games left to score 21 points and hit the triple digit mark. He’s been heating up over the past few weeks. Do you believe?
• He’s also only seven goals away from 50 this year, which seems like a more attainable consolation prize.
• Emile Poirier was healthy scratched for all three Stockton games this week. That does not bode well for his future in the org. He also has one year left on his ELC, which is kind of awkward.
• Daniel Pribyl added a goal and an assist this past week, and has been rounding into fine form post-injury.
• Eetu Tuulola scored another goal this week, as Everett clinched a playoff spot. They have a pretty good chance of making a run to the WHL Finals, which would be a great place for the young Finn to shine.

Defenders

• Stepan Falkovsky finally went a game where he didn’t score two goals! Then in the next game, he scored three and added the shootout winner. He’s a really promising seventh round addition, and I can’t wait to see what he’ll do in Stockton next year.

Brandon Hickey is still out with an LBI, and his Hockey East tourney status is questionable.

Goalies

• It was a real solid week in net for Stockton’s goalies. Jon Gillies stopped 65 of 69 shots, while David Rittich stopped 28 of 29.
• Tyler Parsons and Mason McDonald didn’t play this past week. The former is still hurt and the latter had Tom McCollum sub in for him.

Prospect of the month

Can’t give it to anyone else but Stepan Falkovsky, who scored 12 goals in 12 games during the month of February. That’s what a great forward might score, not a 6’7″ defenceman. He even has one more game tonight to add to that lofty total. Godspeed to him.
