FlamesNation Prospect Update: Goalies put to the test
The Flames had enough professional goalie depth entering the year that both of their farm teams had Flames property starting and backing up. Now, thanks to injuries and a trade, both Stockton goalies are in the NHL for the time being, the AHL team has one goalie, and the Kansas City Mavericks have none. Hockey is interesting sometimes.
In case you missed it
- Here’s the last update.
- Jon Gillies is with Calgary on an emergency basis.
Rasmus Andersson – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | -0.36 |
I don’t put that much value into AHL GF% stats (without good shot metrics, it’s a fancier version of +/-), but holy moly Rasmus.
Austin Carroll – RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 21 | 3 | 1 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 7.34 |

Injured. Timetable unknown.
Dillon Dube – C/LW, Kelowna Rockets, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 38 | 25 | 31 | 56 | 29 | 42 | 21 | 35.04 |
Change from last week | 4 | 3 | 3 | 6 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 0.07 |
Dube surpassed his numbers from last year, beating 55 points with just two games to spare. That may not sound as impressive, but it’s the way he’s doing it that will get you excited. He’s already bested last year in primary points (42 vs 30), 5v5 points (29 vs 26), and 5v5 primary points (21 vs 18).
Zach Fischer – RW, Spokane Chiefs, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 46 | 22 | 14 | 36 | 25 | 25 | 20 | 18.61 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1.3 |
On a bit of a cold streak. Only one goal in the last three weeks.
Spencer Foo – RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 43 | 12 | 12 | 24 | 12 | 21 | 10 | 21.51 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1.05 |
Foo is in another point-less drought too, but he still keeps ripping shots at the net. Seven shots on goal this weekend.
Adam Fox – D, Harvard Crimson, ECAC
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 21 | 0 | 14 | 14 | 5 | 5 | 1 | 12.57 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0.66 |
Fox finally got back on the score sheet, picking up two noise assists (we’ll live with it) against Boston College in the Beanpot tournament.
Glenn Gawdin – C/RW, Swift Current Broncos, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 56 | 48 | 56 | 104 | 55 | 78 | 42 | 44.16 |
Change from last week | 3 | 4 | 3 | 7 | 4 | 6 | 4 | 0.64 |
Continues to put up stupid numbers. He could really hit 125 points before the season ends, which is just nutty.
Josh Healey – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 33 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 2.34 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1.1 |
Got his second assist of the season.
Jaromir Jagr – RW, Rytiri Kladno, Czech.1
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 3 | 0 | 4 | 4 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 30.61 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | -38.34 |
His NHLe more than halved. Trade this bum.
D’Artagnan Joly – RW, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 41 | 16 | 32 | 48 | 25 | 39 | 21 | 24.71 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0.41 |
Joly came back from an injury and notched an assist in the one game he played. That wouldn’t be something to get too excited about, but that one assist means that he perfectly matched his 2016-17 totals, when he finished the year with 16 goals, 32 assists, and 48 points. The only difference is that he played 25 more games to reach that mark.
Pavel Karnaukhov – LW/C, CSKA Moscow, KHL/Zvezda, VHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
KHL current | 11 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 11.03 |

VHL current | 36 | 12 | 19 | 31 | 19 | 25 | 15 | 26.83 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0.12 |
One assist this week for Karnaukhov in VHL action. Has four more games left in his season.
Morgan Klimchuk – LW, Stockton Heat

No points for Klimchuk this week.

Returned after a personal leave in Sweden. Just one assist this week.
Linus Lindstrom – C/LW, Skelleftea AIK, SHL

No points for Linus this week.
Ryan Lomberg – LW, Stockton Heat – X

Still in the NHL. If there’s one thing he still has to learn, it’s to not fight guys nearly a foot taller than him.
Andrew Mangiapane – LW/C, Stockton Heat

Back to lighting up the AHL. Three points in two games this week for Yeastmode.
Mitchell Mattson – C/LW, Sioux Falls Stampede, USHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 41 | 9 | 10 | 19 | 15 | 17 | 13 | 10.64 |

Mattson scored a shorthanded goal this week, his first goal of any kind in a while.
Adam Ollas Mattsson – D, Stockton Heat

Matthew Phillips – C/RW, Victoria Royals, WHL

Change from last week | 4 | 4 | 4 | 8 | 6 | 6 | 5 | 0.7 |
Just marvel at those numbers. Matt Phillips made a mess of the WHL this week. He’s currently on an 18-game point streak, the longest in Victoria Royals history, during which he’s scored 34 points.
Emile Poirier – LW/RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 43 | 4 | 14 | 18 | 11 | 16 | 10 | 16.13 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0.15 |
An assist for Poirier this week. He’s one point ahead of where he was last year, which is something, at least.
Brett Pollock – LW/C, Stockton Heat, AHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 22 | 4 | 2 | 6 | 3 | 4 | 1 | 10.51 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1.05 |
Thanks to injuries and a timely hat trick, Pollock has found a home in Stockton’s lineup. Don’t know how long he hangs onto it, but it’s a start from not playing.
Daniel Pribyl – RW/C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Been sitting firmly around the 0.5 PPG mark since New Year’s. Consistency is key, I guess.
Hunter Smith – RW, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL

Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | -0.47 |
Just one assist for Tuulola this week. Here’s what it looked like:
Juuso Valimaki – D, Tri-City Americans, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 25 | 6 | 18 | 24 | 11 | 16 | 9 | 23.83 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | -0.95 |
Goal and assist this week for Juuso.
Tyler Wotherspoon – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 44 | 6 | 23 | 29 | 14 | 15 | 9 | 25.4 |
Change from last week | 2 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1.54 |
I wonder if the Flames try dangling Wotherspoon as trade bait. He’s not coming back (group six UFA) and he appears to have taken his game to the next level. The team is too deep to do anything with him, so it makes sense. Every team has a Wotherspoon-like player lying around, so it might be a sweetener for a team requiring young defensive depth at best.
Jon Gillies – G, Stockton Heat – X
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 31 | 1658.85 | 0.915 | 869 |
Change from last week | 2 | 91.55 | 0 | 29 |
After a rough week, Gillies rebounded. He saved a penalty shot, two of two shootout attempts, and 24 other shots (25/27, or 0.926 SV%) to secure a win against Grand Rapids. Now he’s back in the NHL.
Mason McDonald – G, Kansas City Mavericks/Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 24 | 1358 | 0.892 | 619 |
Change from last week | 2 | 74 | 0 | 38 |
Currently in Stockton covering for Gillies and Parsons. That leaves Kansas City in the odd situation of having no goalies on their roster:
They don’t play until Friday, so they have time to figure things out. If you own goalie gear and live in Missouri, you might have something to do this weekend.
In McDonald specific news, he got into a fight, his second of the season:
Tyler Parsons – G, Stockton Heat/Kansas City Mavericks
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
ECHL Current | 23 | 1273 | 0.905 | 686 |
Change from last week | 1 | 60 | -0.003 | 31 |
AHL Current | 5 | 176.5 | 0.878 | 88 |
Change from last week | 1 | 54.23 | -0.020 | 27 |
Rough week for Parsons. First, he got lit up to the tune of five goals in the ECHL (on 31 shots, so 0.839 SV%) and in the AHL (on 27 shots, so 0.815). That wasn’t even the worst of it, as he was injured late in Stockton’s game anyways. It’s been an up and down season for him all year, but this is probably one of the low points.
Nick Schneider – G, Calgary Hitmen, WHL
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 49 | 2584 | 0.887 | 1514 |
Change from last week | 3 | 117 | 0.004 | 133 |
Schneider has a five-game streak where his SV% hasn’t fallen below .900 SV%. It’s his first of the season, but after 49 games that’s something that makes you go “hm.”
