FlamesNation Prospect Update: Not Foo-ing around

There’s a lot happening in prospect hockey: the WJC is approaching, the Stockton Heat have moved into first place in the division, and pretty much everyone around the org has kicked it up a notch. I just needed to make a Spencer Foo pun because I’ve pretty much been waiting all season to do so.

In case you missed it

Rasmus Andersson – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current192131597730.43
Change from last week20333223.23
Andersson added three assists (Ryan called him AAAndersson in the group chat because of this, so please boo this man) this week. If there’s anyone on the Stockton roster that is definitely NHL ready, it’s Andersson. What he does week in, week out is so impressive.

Austin Carroll – RW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current70000000
Change from last week10000000
Played a game of hockey this weekend.

Dillon Dube – C/LW, Kelowna Rockets, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current2718203819281433.47
Change from last week2202020-0.77
Dube added another shorthanded goal this week in WHL action, moving him into a tie for second for SHGs (he has three) and into a tie for third in total SH points (also three). Even better news? Matthew Phillips leads both of those categories (four goals, five points).
Dube is going to be the one to watch at the WJC tournament. He’ll get top billing for Team Canada, potentially on the first line LW. I’m very excited to see what he can do with the opportunity.

Zach Fischer – RW, Spokane Chiefs, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current221372014141221.62
Change from last week220222222
Another two games, another two goals for Fischer. He’s been quite the player so far for Spokane, scoring at a point-per-game pace since being acquired.

Spencer Foo – RW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current215611510420.19
Change from last week24041415.99
Finally. After weeks of promising it, the floodgates finally opened and Spencer Foo notched his first professional hat trick (and added a goal the next game, to boot). While he still has some work to do to become an NHL pro, this is a promising step.

Adam Fox – D, Harvard Crimson, ECAC

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current1009933016.97
Change from last week00000000
Fox is on winter break right now, and probably won’t return to NCAA action until mid January, due to the WJC.

Glenn Gawdin – C/RW, Swift Current Broncos, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3128336132512446.79
Change from last week45383830.11
Gawdin passed his career WHL high this week with a stunning five-goal, three-assist performance. What a find this kid has turned out to be.

Josh Healey – D, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current160000000
Change from last week20000000
Two games of hockey this week for Healey.

D’Artagnan Joly – RW, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current2310162615241523.17
Change from last week41675652.67
Joly exploded this week, adding six primary points (one goal + five assists) in four games. He’s making up for lost time, having spent the first few weeks of the season injured. He’s currently third place in scoring on his team with nine fewer games than the leader, and second in points per game.

Pavel Karnaukhov – LW/C, CSKA Moscow, KHL/Zvezda, VHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
KHL current902221113.48
Change from last week1000000-1.69
VHL current20812201215831.16
Change from last week1000000-1.64
Still bouncing between KHL and VHL. A game in both, but no points in either.

Morgan Klimchuk – LW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current22106161013928.03
Change from last week21121101.05
You can probably set your watch to Klimchuk goals at this point in the season.

Oliver Kylington – D, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current221121377522.77
Change from last week20441315.43
Kylington was another one of the Heat prospects that finally exploded this week, adding four assists (three primary). He already has a career 52 AHL points and is just a 20-year-old playing second pairing minutes (with Kayle Doetzel and Cody Goloubef, natch. I love Rasmus too, but at least he gets to play with the AHL dominant Tyler Wotherspoon). Give him a year and he’ll be scary good.

Linus Lindstrom – C/LW, Skelleftea AIK, SHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current262133225.49
Change from last week2000000-0.46
Two games played for the camp-bound Lindstrom. He could play a version of 2017 WJC Dube for Sweden as a reliable shutdown bottom sixer with occasional offensive outbursts. I’ve never seen him play outside of grainy clips and development camp, so I’m pretty excited to see what he can do.

Ryan Lomberg – LW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current212244337.34
Change from last week2000000-0.77
Lomberg didn’t hit the stat sheet this week, but I guess we’ll use his space to show you the line brawl between Stockton and Tuscon:
Lomberg received a 10-minute misconduct for “continuing altercation”.

Andrew Mangiapane – LW/C, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current2210162614181145.55
Change from last week21340203.16
That’s the Mangiapane we know. Although he didn’t record a 5v5 point, it’s nice to see him light up the opposition on the scoresheet.

Mitchell Mattson – C/LW, Sioux Falls Stampede, USHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current22651199711.48
Change from last week20110100
An assist for Mattson this week.

Adam Ollas Mattsson – D, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date140000000
Change from last week10000000
Just a game for this Mattsson.

Matthew Phillips – C/RW, Victoria Royals, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3323275020371436.03
Change from last week2211131-0.02
Phillips has had a slow few weeks, but he’s still on pace for over 100 points and just under 50 goals. If he finds his early season form again, he could easily reach 120 (on pace for 103).
Not including him on the Canada WJC roster was maybe one of the more surprising snubs. A high-scoring, right-shooting, useful in all situations hockey player with Phillips’ talent is hard to find. Given that they brought guys like Jonathan Ang, Drake Batherson, Boris Katchouk, Tanner Kaspick, and Brett Howden (who is currently injured), it seems odd that they couldn’t find room for Phillips. He even stands out as the most impressive on the all-snub list.
If there’s a positive, he took it all in stride:

Emile Poirier – LW/RW, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current212101278422.02
Change from last week2011000-0.29
A nose point for Poirier this week, but it continues his positive production in picking up points on a weekly basis.

Brett Pollock – LW/C, Stockton Heat, AHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current70110005.51
Change from last week00000000
Didn’t play this week.

Daniel Pribyl – RW/C, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current00000000
Still injured.

Rushan Rafikov – D, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current3611011107618.54
Change from last week00000000
Appears to be injured, as he didn’t play for Lokomotiv at all this week.

Adam Ruzicka – C/LW, Sarnia Sting, OHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date3220183814341029.21
Change from last week3303131-0.48
Three goals this week for Ruzicka after a couple of quiet weeks on that front. He’ll probably be the crown jewel for the Slovak team at the WJC this year.

Hunter Shinkaruk – F, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2072948417.34
Change from last week22022222.35
Shinkaruk got the scoring started in both of the Heat’s games this week, including the fastest goal in Stockton history, coming just 12 seconds into the game.

Hunter Smith – RW, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date24771413141313.39
Change from last week31232321.37
Smith added another three points this week, all primary, two at 5v5 and one on the PP.

Filip Sveningsson – LW, HV71, Superelit/SHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
SHL current60000000
Change from last week20000000
Superelit current17913221317921.22
Change from last week2112121-0.65
Sveningsson has actually finished his Superelit season. At least until March, when the U20 teams play in a tournament to determine promotion/relegation. HV71 made the cut, so we’ll see him back there in the spring. Otherwise, he should be playing as an extra forward for the SHL club.

Eetu Tuulola – RW, HPK, SM-Liiga

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current27841259415.67
Change from last week31342213.89
After escaping discipline for hitting a ref last week, Eetu responded with four points in three games. He was due for some good luck eventually:
The not so great news is that he’s signed a new contract with HPK until 2020, when the Flames’ rights to him expire. The team can’t touch him until that contract is over, so maybe we won’t see him for a while.
Tuulola is probably a lock to make Finland’s WJC team, but no word on where he slots in.

Juuso Valimaki – D, Tri-City Americans, WHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current1851419813825.10
Change from last week2022010-0.17
Valimaki returned from injury to add two points in two games. He’ll captain Finland at the WJC, so I’m gonna assume he makes the team.

Tyler Wotherspoon – D, Stockton Heat

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Current223111489724.53
Change from last week21121211.41
Just gonna repeat myself from last week: a goal and an assist for Wotherspoon this week. Has he earned an NHL look?

Jon Gillies – G, Stockton Heat

GPTOISV%SA
Current14835.870.927369
Change from last week21200.00655
Gillies started both games for Stockton, notching a shutout in one.

Mason McDonald – G, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL

GPTOISV%SA
Current94850.874215

McDonald stopped 20 of 23 in his game this week.

Tyler Parsons – G, Kansas City Mavericks

GPTOISV%SA
Current1810150.907559
Change from last week2118+0.00150
Parsons saw two games this week, first stopping 23 of 26, and then 23 of 24.

David Rittich – G, Stockton Heat – X

GPTOISV%SA
Current6359.70.931188

In the NHL for the time being.

Nick Schneider – G, Calgary Hitmen, WHL

GPTOISV%SA
Current2615380.886781

Another good game/bad game week for Schneider. He started off good enough, allowing one goal on 14 shots and then allowing six on 29 shots.
