Dustin Wolf’s streak is over. After going 17 games without a single regulation loss to start the 2021–22 season, Wolf finally came out on the wrong side through 60 minutes on Tuesday as his Stockton Heat lost 2–1 to the Tucson Roadrunners.
Wolf could get his chance at revenge as soon as Wednesday. It’s unclear who will start in goal for the Heat as they return to action to conclude their back-to-back series in Tucson.
Tuesday’s game saw the Heat outshoot the Roadrunners 31–24. Opposing goaltender @Ivan Prosvetov stood tall, making 30 saves en route to his eighth victory in 15 games this season.
Highly-touted Arizona Coyotes prospects @Jan Jenik and @Victor Soderstrom each recorded two points in the win for Tucson. Wolf made 22 saves on 24 shots in the loss and fell to 15–1–2 on the year.
@Justin Kirkland scored Stockton’s lone goal on Tuesday. In his AHL debut, big 28-year-old winger @Jay Dickman took the delay of game penalty in the third period that led directly to Jenik’s go-ahead goal.
Heat defenceman @Juuso Valimaki returned from COVID-19 protocol on Tuesday, firing four shots on Prosvetov in the loss. Kirkland led all Heat forwards with four shots on goal.
@Daniil Chechelev backed up Wolf on Tuesday, with regular second goaltender @Adam Werner remaining in COVID-19 protocol. If the Heat elect to rest Wolf on Wednesday, it’s possible that Chechelev could make his first-ever AHL start. The 2020 fourth-round pick has a 6–5–1 record and an .894 save percentage in 12 ECHL games with the Kansas City Mavericks this season.
