Dustin Wolf was spectacular for the Stockton Heat in their season-opening game against the Tucson Roadrunners on Friday, stopping 34 of the 35 shots directed his way.
Unfortunately for Wolf, the only shot he didn’t stop was the last one he faced. Tucson defenceman Vladislav Kolaychonok beat Wolf at the 1:56 mark of overtime for the game’s only goal, securing his team a 1-0 win. At the other end, Roadrunners goaltender Ivan Prosvetov recorded a 29-save shutout.
On Saturday night, the Heat will go for both their first goal and their first win in a rematch against the same Roadrunners team. Puck-drop will go just after 7:00 p.m. MT at the Stockton Arena.
Note: The AHL is running a free preview of its AHL TV streaming service from Oct. 15 to 17, so you’ll be able to watch this game for FREE by signing up at watchtheAHL.com.

Players to watch

Stockton Adam Ruzicka. With the Heat still looking for their first goal of the season, who better to get them on the board than the man who registered a club-record four consecutive three-point games near the start of the 2020–21 campaign? Ruzicka tied Matthew Phillips for the team lead with 22 points last season and also managed to draw into his first three NHL games, picking up an assist.
Tucson — Barrett Hayton. The Arizona Coyotes are still waiting for Hayton, 21, to make an impact in the NHL after drafting the well-built centre with the fifth-overall selection in the 2018 draft. Despite captaining Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2020 World Juniors, Hayton has managed to score just seven points in 34 NHL games over parts of two seasons in Arizona.
