Jade Iginla wins gold with Team Canada at 2022 U18 World Championship

Jade Iginla picked up an assist as Team Canada defeated Team USA 3–2 on Monday evening to capture gold at the 2022 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in Madison, WI.

Iginla, 17, recorded the primary helper on Ava Murphy’s goal midway through the second period, which gave Canada a 2–0 lead over its fierce rivals.

Despite allowing two goals in seven seconds late in the middle period, Canada ended up holding on to win 3–2 and capture the gold.

Jade Iginla is the eldest of Jarome Iginla’s three children. Her entire immediate family was in attendance at the Labahn Ice Arena to take in Monday’s game.

Jarome, now 44, won gold medals in many international competitions during his illustrious career, including the U20 World Juniors, the World Cup of Hockey, and the Olympics.

However, Jade already has one up on her father: Jarome never had the chance to play at the U18 Worlds, which were established in 1999, during his career. (Jarome did win gold with a Canadian U18 team at 1994’s “La Copa Mexico,” which served as a precursor to what is now called the Hlinka Gretzky Cup).

Jade Iginla spent the 2021–22 season playing at the Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna, where Jarome works as a coach and her eldest brother, Tij, also plays. In 27 total games with Rink Academy, Iginla scored 22 goals and 39 points.

Iginla also previously played at the prestigious Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep School in Faribault, MN, and is committed to Brown University for the 2022–23 season and beyond.
